Hi Sarah,

Good luck re the lap on Thursday - what made them decide on this course of action?. Was it due to very painful periods?. I ask this as this is commonly done for such reasons (endometriosis is commonly diagnosed via this op).

Having had a lap type procedure done myself I can attest to the fear of same being worse than the reality. I was advised to have two days off work post op.

The post op pain in the shoulders can be intense but painkillers should take the edge off it. That I found was the worst thing about this operation. The pain in the shoulders comes about because the carbon dioxide gas that is pumped in to give the surgeon a better view moves upwards.

I hope the cons has given you a follow up appointment a week or so post op to discuss the findings of the lap operation. If this has not happened I would ask why this is and insist you are followed up properly post op.

Good luck on Thursday!!.

Hi thanks for the advice, I just want it done now!
Yep very painful periods-sickess and fainting.
I know it probably sounds crazy but i almost want them to find something wrong so it can be sorted n a can concieve.
Id been to the doctors so often, the last time i went i actually refused to leave the surgery until i was refered to a specialist. All doctors i had seen said - oh the only thing to stop the pain is to go back on the pil-umm that doesnt exactly help to make a baby! Anyway the speacilist was great-someone who didnt just say dont worry your young! I think everyones different, ive been wiv partner for 5yrs, we own our own home, have decent jobs and are very settled. Were both ready! Is it true sometimes having a lap and dye can actually help to concieve?! Sorry ive gone on!

Hi Sarah I am also having a lap and dye soon had one in the past it not to bad. Just a bit sore and tired afterwards. If they dont find any major prob it help to flush out your tubes and can help ttc for the 3 months afterwards. Good Luck for thursday. Quick question does any one know if it can be done whilst on period I am due to have it done and it going to be a bit tight with dates etc hopefully would have finished but might be on the tale end of af.

Hi Sarah,

Am glad you've finally got someone to take you seriously.

Endometriosis is a common cause of very painful periods. Methinks this is why they are doing the lap - its commonly diagnosed this way as other tests (e.g blood tests and ultrasounds) do not detect it.

I would ensure that this is not solely done as a purely diagnostic procedure; you do not need any more surgery than you need. Ask the surgeon beforehand what he intends to do if endometriosis is found. Your previous doctors have shown great ignorance. Less said about them the better.

You may want to look at www.endo.org.uk anyway as it may help you; this is the website of Endometriosis UK.

I can give you some questions to ask post lap op if you so wish.

HI Sarah

I'm not sure if its true or a coincidence but when I went for a lap and dye my friend kept saying she had heard of loads of people catching afterwards and guess what I did too. I caught on the same month as I had it. Maybe the dye grabs some sperm on the way up the tubes and lobes it at the egg??? Who knows? But good luck and hope you catch very soon!

I'm TTC again, but because they have already done a lap and dye I can't really ask for another one....lol... so having IUI this time. Fingers crossed XX

Good news Sarah... Fab that everything is clear. Your right the morphine makes you feel drunk... I was telling the hospital how great they were, where in fact the hospital was a shit hole and normally I would of been moaning about cleanliness
God what a moan bag!
Well best of luck and lets hope the procedure helped. Best wishes Xx

I admire you for wanting to have sex so soon after! I didn't bleed very much at all, but AF is due, so not sure what my body is doing! I am sure there is nothing for you to worry about, perhaps ring your GP if you are still worried by Monday.

Hi Sarah

I had my lap and dye 1 1/2 years ago. It showed up nothing.

No advice on the sex part, as we did not have sex afterwards and then found out I was pregnant. As we had been trying for a 18 months it was a welcome break

Sure the bleed is nothing, but like loubers said if your still worried by Monday give your GP a quick call or maybe the hospital unit where your consultant is based and ask to speak to a nurse??? As the clinic we attend is separate from the main hospital they have their own reception and telephone numbers, Do you have this facility?

Hope your OK XX

Hi I've been watching this thread as I might need to have a lap and dye as I've been trying for dc2 for a year and so far no luck. Currently seeing a private consultant for suspected short luteal phase - although this is now looking unlikely. My consultant keeps mentioning having my tubes looked at but I think it's going to be really pricey privately. Can anyone tell me how long they had to wait on the nhs and how they got on the waiting list for the op? Thanks

Hi Buttercup, I asked my gp to refer me and made sure that he did so to a specific consultant. Here in the Midlands if they just refer you generally it adds another few months to your wait while they very slowly allocate you a doc. Maybe its different elsewhere but worth knowing. I waited about 5 months in the end. In the meantime a changed my diet drastically. If you've got pcos apparantly a low carb diet can balence out your hormones etc, but that may not apply x Good luck

Hi buttercupbabe, I waited about 6 months. I was referred to my local Fertility unit and saw the consultant there. I had all the normal tests over a period of about 3 months and then he booked me in for a lap and dye which took about another 3 months. Hope you get to see someone soon, best wishes Xx

Thanks. I've just found out that our private health care cover will cover it. So back to see the consultant and try to book it. Feeling a bit worried as he keeps mentioning tubes sticking after c-sections. Hope it's not the case....

Anniemac - I'm now on 13th day of luteal phase! Had some spotting on sat and thought it was going wrong like my 1st month of hcg but no spotting since. So even if af does arrive it has cerainly worked in lengthening my LP this time. Great news about the accupuncture, I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you.
I'm still going to seriously think about a lap and dye though as my consultant has said from day 1 that after a c-section tubes can get sticky.
Good luck to all you girls who have recently gone through the lap and dye, and I'll most probably be back soon to get some more advice on the procedure.
