Swimming after TTC - is this OK?

MY SIL just had IVF a few weeks ago, and told me that she was told not to go swimming or sit in the sun for a while afterwards. She did have the treatment in Barcelona so it was hotter than here. Anyway, I am TTC (naturally) at the moment, and this is a new one on me. Does anyone know if you're supposed not to go swimming after TTC? I go swimming twice a week so this is abit of an issue for me. I don't ever sit in the sun so I'm not so bothered about this. Thanks x

this sounds very odd, didn't she ask why? is it a temperature thing? i cannot see what on earth could happen at swimming, unless someone is suggesting sperm could be washed away?!

No, I don't think she asked. She just kept out of the pool! i wondered if this was a temperature thing. You're not supposed to get too hot, are you? I know saunas and steam rooms are no-nos. The swimming thing threw me though. I mean, that would cool you down, right? Do you think I'm OK to keep swimming, even the day after TTC?

Thanks fishie. I should've known by your name that you're a swimmer!

I have an acquaitance(sp) who has had years of IVF, she reckons that jumping into a cold swimming pool prevented implantation of the embryo. She also seemed to think that going on a long car journey prevented implantation. Who knows, maybe that's true in her case.

I know someone who swims 100 lengths a day and still became pregnant with twims naturally.

Auntjet - I wouldn't worry too much, and good luck with TTC.

Thanks belgo. Perhaps it is only relevant to IVF then. From what I have picked up from my DB and SIL, implantation doesn't occur as easily as when you conceive naturally. Thank you for your advice (and good luck wishes), much appreciated.

Hi, I have recently had IVF treatment and you are not meant to go swimming due to infection thru the egg transfer, you can still swim if you fall preg naturally. Hope this helps

hi ladies, just got directed here- so pleased to have my questions answered already! I swim every other day. Got PG first try then MC in march. Now ttc like crazy and started to worry swimming was washing sperm away - is it really okay?
