Positive test but too early to tell?

I've not really been feeling myself for the past week, really really sore breasts, slight nausea, constipation (which is really rare for me), horrible taste in my mouth, so I took a pregnancy test (two days in a row) and both have come back positive, the only problem is that it is too early to tell I've realised after reading up online, I can only be about three weeks and it's a week before my next period is due. As we are ttc I'm worried about telling my partner or getting my hopes up, I'll attach the pregnancy tests photos to make sure.
Also another factor is I've just started taking Amitriptyline, I took it for a few days stopped for a week as I felt I'll and took it again a few days this week. I'm worried this is all false hope, I've stopped taking it again after a few days use.

False positives are very uncommon, congratulations!

Any chance you're further along at all? That's a stronger positive than I got and I'm 9+5. Smile

I know, that's what I was thinking but I had a really heavy period 4 weeks ago, so i can't be. That's what makes me think it might be the medicine? I've booked a doctors appointment but they can't get me in until the 21st. It's odd isn't it? I'm not sure what else I can do and I'm so impatient! It's taking up my whole head at the moment.

Unless your medication has a side effect of increasing HCG production, which I highly doubt, you're pregnant. Very pregnant.

It is very early for a positive that strong....either your further along than you think (could you have ovulated earlier than you think?) or maybe it's twins?!!

With the heaviness of my last period I can't say I think I'm any later, I also had a series of blood tests about two months ago that never picked it up, reading down and seeing other people's tests makes me realise that it's not normal and it appeared pretty quickly within 30 seconds of me doing it.

But AFTER the heavy bleed, could you have ovulated sooner than you thought? I.e. Ovulated on day 7 (straight after the bleed) instead of day 14. That'd make you one week more pregnant than you think.

Congratulations. You are definitely pregnant and amitriptyline would not cause a positive result. A strong positive like this indicates either your further along or it could he twins/triplets

That is a possibility, I roughly have 5 week cycles anyway, but I'm quite sporadic so catching ovulation has always been tough so we recently gave up. I stopped logging my periods so I can't even say exactly when it was but it was roughly 4 weeks ago and I'm due next week according to a period tracker, my sloppiness does not help my situation haha

I may have to get to the doctors sooner to get to the bottom of this, the test that tested for pregnancy was in my first round of bloods which were about two months ago.

Could you do a clearblue digi? I was bit obsessive about testing and they were fairly accurate with the weeks indicator.

That's a really good idea actually, I'll have to pop up to Tesco tomorrow and see if they have any.

You're all amazing by the way & thank you! I don't have anyone to really talk to about this and my partner doesn't come home until Sunday as he works away and I don't want to tell him over text. It's really nice to have the support Flowers

Hi i don't want to be the giver of bad news but i have attached a screen shot from drugs.com and the link is here www.drugs.com/cdi/amitriptyline-perphenazine.html

However, I hope you are pregnant and it has nothing to do with the tablets.

Well done for finding something as I got so frustrated trying to google it earlier! That's why I don't want to get my hopes up, I think I'll need to go to the doctors but I've only taken it twice this week and for 4 days 2 weeks ago but that might of been enough to cause it, I wonder if it would cause a false positive? I do have symptoms but they could also be bad period symptoms.

Keep us posted . It doesn't say which way it affects a pregnancy test. I doubt very much it would give a false positive as it doesn't give you the pregnancy hormone hcg . Id say it's more likely to give a false negative.

Horsegirl1 · 05/11/2016 08:59

Iv done some googling and all I can find is it could give a false negative. So if say you are definitely pregnant. THE only drugs that can make you produce hcg in small amounts is benzodiazapenes

Thank you all so much you are all genuinely brilliant. I know, I spent the whole night awake googling it and it's so hard to find any actual information on it, it's all so vague. I'm not really sure what to do, there's nothing I can do until atleast Monday and see if I can get an emergency appointment, but I doubt they would class it as one. Although that was what I was informed to do by the receptionist when I rang up yesterday. It's such a weird situation!

I've almost decided not to tell my partner when he gets back tomorrow as he has a very stressful job and he would start stressing about this massively.

I would say that you are pregnant congratulations!

I was in a similar situation to you, we had been ttc for nearly a year and due to my PCOS I had to go to docs for help. They took bloods etc and put me on tablets, anyway turns out bloods didn't show it but I was pregnant I guess the bloods were taken too early in ovulation. I felt different so did 2 pregnancy tests and they were as clear as yours and showed up pretty quickly. Turns out I was 4 weeks!

Hope you are able to get some clarification from doctor on Monday and have everything crossed for you Flowers
