TTC for 1 year and I have taken Pregnacare Conception tablets every day

www.vitabiotics.com/pregnacare/conception

On pack it says

Vitamin D (as D3 600 IU) 15 µg

Should I take additional Vitamin D supplement?

I only ask because some of my friends who are undergoing IVF are told to take additional D with their Pregnacare Conception tablets?

Why is this?

I do - and I always have even before pregnancy. There is a significant amount of research on the benefits of additional vitamin D in quantities that pregnacare don't contain. I take an additonal 1000 IU (standard capsule), and that is still not the 2500 IU most widely recommended in the literature. The UK does not provide enough sunlight hours for adequate levels/supplementation.

Thanks Barefootcontessa84

The NHS recommends 10 micrograms (µg) per day for adults and maximum of 100 micrograms (µg) per day (above 100 is dangerous).

The Pregncare Conception has 15 micrograms (µg).

I think I will definitely increase my vitamin D with some low dose Boots own brand Vitamin D.

PS I don't know what IU equivalent is, you said you take 1000 IU per day, what is this in micrograms (µg)?

1000 IU is 25 micrograms, so I take approximately 40 per day - still well below 100. Hope that helps.

Thanks Barefootcontessa84

I'm surprised that Pregnacare doesn't have higher levels of Vitamin D.

Will start taking more Vitamin D I think!
