Can you get pregnant straight after stopping the pill?

Or is that an old wives tale to frighten people into being extra careful and not miss a pill?
It seems to take everyone so long to readjust to normal periods.
I've not come across anyone who fell pregnant immediately or very quickly.

Yes, you certainly can...

Yep. First month of trying after coming off pill both times.

Not missing a pill isn't being extra careful, it's following the instructions.

Yep. DD2 was 2 months after stopping the pill. DD1 was while I was on the patch, doc completely amazed as I was using it properly

I am clearly very fertile though so I'm extremely paranoid about taking the pill now.

Yes. I stopped and got pregnant within the first months twice.

Month, not months. Like literally before the first period was due.

Yes. I got pregnant with DS1 immediately after stopping the pill, which annoyed some doctors/midwives because I hadn't had a 'natural' period they could use to date the pregnancy. Not that it matters AT ALL when you get to the 12 week scan.

Conceived first month off the pill here too.

I stopped taking my pill August last year and my last period was in December, so it only took 4 months for us to get pregnant.
I'd heard that it takes 6 months after stopping the pill to conceive, but that can't be true. I've also read that once you stop it, the first period is called the withdrawal period and you can get pregnant afyer this.

Are you asking for yourself OP!

Kaisha02 · 19/08/2016 21:53

Thanks everyone. I didn't miss one pill in 7 years, I was so strict. Now we are off and ttc I was feeling a bit glum as all I could read on here (and elsewhere) are stories about how long it takes to readjust.

Sorry meant to be a caring question, not a goady exclamation Blush hoping everything is okay!

Yep, came off the pill, no period, just pregnant straight away. Also annoyed the midwives!

Of course! My mum was on the pill when she found out she was pregnant with me, hadn't missed any but did have an upset stomach for a few days and didn't realise it affected the pill. My friends sister in law has just found out she was pregnant while on the pill after an upset stomach also.

I had one period then pregnant...I thought I was going to be having a few months of wild sex...however after no one I had one shot of depo and hated it and then started trying to conceive...which happened about a year after

Ahh just seen your latest post OP, how long have you been trying? I came off the pill last August but we used condoms still until about the November then I found out I was pregnant in February, so only really 3 months. It can take a while for your cycle to regulate so don't get too disheartened yet :).

I had heard (although I'm not sure how accurate this is) that you are extremely fertile for a very short period after stopping the pill......and then it all settles down and can take a while!!

We haven't been trying long at all, i only stopped the pill on 1 August and then had my usual week off pill induced period and didn't start my next packet.
Mentally I was prepared for a few months but for some reason all the posts jumping out at me all said it was taking 12 months+ to regulate.
After 7 years on the pill I never realised what it had done to my sex drive. It's amazing now Grin

I had heard that too football.

Got pg with DD straight away after coming off the pill, but as I didn't go back on the pill, I thought it may have settled down and it wouldn't happen so quickly 2nd time round - but it took literally one time of dtd!

BadToTheBone · 19/08/2016 22:23

I got pg when on the pill, so definitely able to get of off it too. That's what happens when you ignore the "use other protection when taking antibiotics" advice, lol. He's nearly 15, I'm over the shock now!

I thought it would take ages- currently 22 weeks pregnant with baby conceived in second month coming off pill...which I'd been taking for 10 years. Lovely surprise Grin

The only thing I did find, kaisha was that because I'd been on the pill for so long I didn't 'know' my body so was confused about what it felt like to ovulate/PMT etc, which made me feel a little silly!

Kaisha02 · 19/08/2016 22:45

Veryfriendlylion - I'm so glad you said that. I do feel a bit out of touch with it all! I have absolutely no idea about when I'm ovulating, I don't really want to get into using kits for it yet as I tend to get a bit obsessed pretty quickly with new ideas.
