Faint BFPs but AF arrived

Hi everyone, could do with some advice. I got a faint BFP on 12 dpo (superdrug early response). I've never even got a squinter before but didn't want to get my hopes up (TTC #1). On the morning of 13DPO I got a faint but clear BFP on FRER but AF arrived about an hour later - very crampy, painful and heavy. Got another faint BFP this morning at 14DPO on a boots early response test, AF still in full flow. Has anyone else experienced anything similar? I am suspecting a chemical pregnancy, but as I have never had a positive test before it would be good to hear other people's experiences. I've been TTC for 18 months and currently in the midst of getting fertility tests done, this is the closest we have got.

Definitely sounds like a chemical Pixie, they are wuite common & is one of the frustrations of early testing. Fingers crossed for your BFP soon Flowers

I had this last cycle and this cycle just got my bfp over a week ago and seems to be sticking around..
I tried to take it as a good sign that you can get pregnant

Congratulations abbinobb! That's great news, and very encouraging to hear Smile thanks Dani, will pop over and say hi! I am currently having fertility tests done, so don't have the full results yet, but have already been told by two different nurses that I could have pcos, so would be good to join a group of similar ladies xx

Hi ladies, so I took another test this morning which is also day 4 of AF as I wanted to check it would be back to negative. The test came back with a much darker positive so I don't know what to think. Has anyone experienced anything similar? I would have thought if it was a chemical it would be much fainter line or a negative. Any advice would be welcomed! Xx

I think it would be worth speaking to your GP to have some bloods taken. At an early stage, in order to check that the pregnancy is okay, you'll need repeat bloody rests to ensure your HCG levels. Because you've had what seems like a period I think it would be worth ruling out something like an ectopic.

Yep I would want to be talking to the GP too. I tested positive after my period had ended (totally normal period in length and volume of blood). I worried about ectopic but the end result was that the egg had tried to implant but obviously not quick enough or well enough to prevent AF. My pregnancy tests stayed faint and my numbers never went above 200.

Eventually after a long wait I had in essence a miscarriage and after a long bleed I tested negative. Was a very weird and frustrating time but luckily I knew it was never viable so it didn't really upset me beyond being pussed off it had fucked with my cycles.

Thanks for the responses. I have an appointment in Wednesday at my GP so will definitely see if I can find out what's going on. It's just very confusing, but not getting my hopes up.

I do think with a chemical the pregnancy hormones might hang around for a while which in theory could give you bfps for a while. But yes a trip to the gp is in order.
You can conceive which is good news even though right now you must be very confused. Anecdotally i've heard several stories about people conceiving very soon after chemicals or miscarrige. I struggled to conceive dc1 but not issue at all with dc2.
It was as if someone had flicked a switch.
Best of luck to you.

I'm going through exactly the same. Wish I'd never tested. My sympathies.

With mine, my tests went negative before i bled and they were never as strong as that, so i second the suggestion of going to he GP because this must be really confusing for you

Thanks all - I agree Angie, wish I'd never tested - although it is nice to see a BFP for the first time ever! Will see what the doctors says on Wednesday and take it from there. Trying to see the positive - at least I can conceive :-)

Little - be careful about waiting too long to be seen. If you feel any one sided pains or the blood looks a very dark colour, try and see someone at the EPU. That's how my ectopic started. I only got proper positives after what looked like my period.

Sorry, I'm trying to say that in a way that doesn't sound too dramatic.

Thanks Kirin, I appreciate the advice and will keep a close eye on any strange pains or symptoms - I am a bit concerned about an ectopic Confused xx
