Hi everyone I'm having a bit of a panic and this is something I've been worried about for a while but now I am at the point where I want to start trying for a baby I'm thinking about it more and more. I had my first BF when I was 18 he cheated and have me chlamydia. I had symptoms and he swore blind it couldn't be an STI and I was devastated when I found out. I probably had the infection for about 3 months, luckily or unluckily I had strong symptoms of lower abdominal pain and discharge so had it treated on a strong course of antibiotics. It took me ages to feel normal again.

Over 10 years on I haven't had any other problems of that nature but now I am wanting to start trying for a baby and I'm absolutely panicking that infection will have blocked my tubes. Please can anyone here share their experiences with me if you have been through anything similar, either conceived having had chlamydia or had treatment for blocked tubes? I've tried to look up statistics online but it's all so contradictory. Thank you so much.

Hi Donovan, just wanted to share my experience with you.

I found out that my ex had cheated on me when I was diagnosed with chlamydia. It was an awful time and really scarred me as he was the same, denied it. He never admitted it. I felt like I was going mad.

Anyway I know when it happened as I'd had investigations for pain in that area but full stop screening was clear. Then a few months later a routine smear picked it up. I only had it for a couple of months and got antibiotics like you. Have been retested and clear since then.

Fast forward 12 years, I met my now husband, got married and started thinking about a family.

I was terrified that the chlam would have rendered me infertile. I came off the pill for a month before we tried so id had a normal period and could kind of see what my cycle was. I used opks to check if I ovulated that month, which I did.

Then on to trying properly and we conceived on the first month which was hugely unexpected. (I'm 34 and was convinced I'd have problems)

I know this is just my experience but I couldn't read and run. I've been where you are and I know it is scary. Just wanted to say good luck, try not to worry too much (I know, easier said than done!) and maybe speak to your gp about it? All the best x

SittingInTheShade

Thank you so much for replying and sharing your experience I almost feel like crying with relief reading that. I know I've got this out of proportion in my head but just knowing someone else has been through the same and had a positive outcome with no problems is so reassuring. I'm going to try and not worry about anything now until there's actually something to worry about IYSWIM- I didn't know if because I had symptoms it meant the infection was worse or if that's irrelevant.

Anyway I'm going to try and stop torturing myself congrats on your little one.

Thank you, it is still early days but hoping all goes well :)

Its so hard when it's all you can think (worry!) about. Plus until youre ready to try there's no way of knowing what's going on in there, I was on the pill for years so couldn't really remember a normal period and I wasn't ready to try till I met DH.

Wishing you all the best, xxx

I also picked up the hideous chlam from an ex dick boyfriend I have 2 children both conceived after 4 months of trying I wouldn't worry I had it for around 3-4 months and didn't know until I was in extreme pain and passed out Blush so I wouldn't worry unless you are actively trying and not getting anywhere Smile

I contracted Chlamydia in similar circumstances to you at the same age. Mine developed into full blown pelvic inflammatory disease and one of my ovaries became clubbed and scarred and I was warned it might not function. At 27 I conceived dd after one month of trying. Then, last year I conceived our second after three months but I sadly miscarried at 13 weeks. I'm now 11 weeks with my third. Took me 6 cycles this time. However, I'm living proof that you can still be fertile after Chlamydia. Good luck Flowers

Hi op,

I've been there very similar story. Conceived dd easily. There is very conflicting advice out there and it's worrying I know but chances are you will be fine. Good luck

Similar circumstances here also OP, infected by a cheat and then antibiotics.

This was years and years ago now, I now have 4 children, all conceived relatively easily.

Try not to worry!

I had chlyamidia for around 6 months after a stupid one night stand when I was a student. I was honestly terrified it would affect my fertility, especially since I am an only child as my mum had reoccurring miscarriages (I know it's not the same but it made me feel I had no chance of being a mum). DS was born in September. Please try not to worry, I'm sure you will be fine Flowers

Same here. Went for a STD check and found I had chlamydia - so no idea how long I had it but maybe a year? (Going by cheating bf)

Conceived both kids on first and second tries.

Good luck op!

I have no idea how I got chlamydia or how long I had it for before it was picked up but I too experienced period problems which was why they were investigating. I too worried that that combined with other medical problems I have would mean I wouldn't be able to conceive. It was most definitely not the case! I got pregnant with dc1 after one month of trying and accidentally pregnant with dc2 after contraception malfunction! Fingers crossed for you Flowers

Omg reading about everyone has given me hope! I was sexually assaulted at 14 and got chlam, it wasn't until I have 15 that I told anyone and then went and got tested!! I had the antibiotics and I was all good, 6 years later me and my partner are trying for a baby, but I'm the back of my mind I'm thinking I will be infertile due to have it for so long, and not getting tested for pid afterwards (I was young and wanted to put everything that happened in the back of my head) ...been trying for 2 months now and still negatives

Hello! Have you had any luck ttc? I also had Chlamydia for about 2 months, the day I found out I had a 104 fever and went to the ER. They did an ultrasound which they said looked fine, but I’m still so worried I won’t be able to get pregnant.
