Hi all, I'm new to all this so bare with me if I don't get the lingo straight away!
I had my coil out 23rd May and had spotting straight after. Heavyish period for a week starting 26th May and nothing since. Tried our best regularly including on the right days but I've tested twice the last 2 days and I've had negative results both times. I have 2 other children and have been pregnant 4 times in total but all those showed a day or 2 early so I'm assuming I'm not pregnant? Just wondering if anyone else has ever had the same and ended up with a positive eventually.

Hormones can mess with your cycles for a considerable amount of time after stopping birth control... Were you on mirena or the copper coil? Not all women have a 28 day cycle. Have you tracked ovulation through opks or BBT? in future, the combination will let you know when you ovulated...

Sometimes we just ovulate late, especially during stressful times, or changes in routine (exercise, work patterns).

What's opks and bbt? I bought some ovulation test strips from Amazon and used those. I had a mirena coil.

OPK = ovulation prediction kit, ie test strips. Did you get a positive? For many/ most people, ov will happen about 14 days after ovulation.

BBT is basal body temp. After ov progesterone rises, which causes a temp spike, meaning if you take your temp before and after ov you would notice a temp shift. If you take your temp upon waking each morning, a pattern emerges that can allow you to pinpoint when ovulation occurred. Though it can get pretty addictive!

Mirena has hormones, which would change your natural hormone cycle. It can take the body awhile to re-adjust after going of birth control (though some people return to natural cycles immediately).

However, if you have been having unprotected sex, you could be pregnant. They only thing for it is to wait and possibly keep testing?

I did get a positive result yes either 8th or 9th of June I can't remember which but I know we had sex a couple of days before, on the day and then after too so it's obviously possible I'm pregnant but I can't understand the negative tests. Just have to wait and see what happens now as I'm now 3 days late for my period. Thanks for the advice.

Also to bear in mind: a positive opk does not mean you did actually ovulate, but just that an attempt was made. Some people will get positives after an initial positive, indicating the original ovulation was not successful - so you're right - it's a waiting game!

Good luck!
