Levonelle MAP - could I be Pregnant?

aboutyourdress1 · 21/06/2016 21:50

I had unprotected sex on day 15 (ovulation day) of my cycle and took the levonelle contraceptive pill around 12-13 hours later. I'm on day 26 of my 28 day cycle and am feeling exhausted/run down, sore boobs/nipples, I have lower back ache, random pains in my lower abdomen and I feel like I'm urinating more. Im not sure whether im just having extreme pre period symptoms or Can I be pregnant even if I took the MAP with 72 hours?
Any experiences of getting pregnant after using the MAP?

I'm in full panic mode Confused

It can fail. Best thing to do is do a test tomorrow. Best of luck Flowers

Hi yes it is possible.. I have a four year old as living proof! I was pushing the limit though, I took it within the 72 hour limit (not the recommended 24) and so its only about 60% effective then. I think if taken within 24 hours its pretty effective though so try not to stress. You could probably do an early test now though to hopefully put your mind at ease x

It's really not that effective if you've already ovulated and mid cycle it's a good chance you had. There is certainly a chance you're up the duff. It happens to the best of us Wink
Would it be a total disaster?

Yeah maybe a test would be the best idea.... Just been putting it off because I'm scared for if I am.

Not for me but it's only 9 months in a new relationship. We are long distance too so none of the big subjects have been talked about!

Yes it can certainly fail, but as a hormone based contraceptive it could have sent your own hormones out of sync (it did with me!). Take a test tomorrow.
I too have been in that stomach churning state of possible pregnancy panic, just try not to worry yourself silly Flowers

Well if you are then you have options. You can talk about it and decide what outcome you can both live with most comfortably. It happens to a lot of women and there's no right and wrong answer.

Think of it this way...you probably aren't. But if you are, you don't need to do anything or tell anyone straight away. Take a test and give yourself time to think it over if you get a BFP.

It might not be a total disaster Smile

Thanks for the replies.
Its helping just to get it off my chest. Got alot going on at the moment so feels like more weight on my shoulders.

Today I am feeling like i'm not. Im still exhausted but I think thats due to the heat and the other things going on so i'm not sleeping properly. I have really bad back ache today which is normally a sign of my period coming. I'm feeling abit off but again I think it could be that im just feeling run down.

Me and the OH are in a weird arguing phase at the moment too... the distance is so incredibly hard and we have a stalker ex situation going on so causing problems. It not like we can just get together to have it out face to face, we have to wait for weekends. Its just a nightmare. I keep getting mood swings too so I am reacting so badly to quite small things Blush

Am I ok testing at any time or should i wait till the morning?

Once again thanks.

You can test any time but first thing in the morning is best when urine is most concentrated. These could easily be period symptoms, especially as MAP can mess around with the symptoms.

OK I will go get a test on my break.
Yeah I feel like I do when I'm due on. I've been reading too much about it failing on another forum so I think I've just been overthinking it.

Thanks

How do you feel about it being positive? Have you spoken to your boyfriend about it yet?

I'm happy... I can't deny it. just as most things in my life are straight forward this isnt either.
But I mean im creating a little person which is just amazing.

I dont know about the boyfriend... so early on in the relationship and we live 160 miles apart. Im only 3 months into a new job and he is being made redundant in september.

Like I said worst time ever but im a great believer in things happening for a reason.

Im panicking now because i went on a henparty last weekend... my baby might have 3 heads *joke

If you're happy about it then great! Congrats Flowers
Wouldn't worry about the 3 heads, I didn't know I was pregnant with ds until i was 15 weeks gone and that was over Christmas and new years so lots of drinking, he only had the one head so I think you'll be fine Wink

Congratulations! I can really sympathise with how you are feeling right now, I remember when I found out i was pregnant after map failure I was just in total shock and it took a whole to sink in! Like you I was in relatively new relationship and career wise timing was pretty awful! But 4 years later I can absolutely say having him is the best thing I have ever done!! Things may be tough at first but they have a way or working themselves out. Hope everything works out for you. X
Ps getting taking your vitamins!

Oh and also about the drinking - in two week period between conception and my period being due I had had my birthday and been to a festival so two quite heavy weekends... I was fretting like mad but midwife put my mind at ease as that early on the placenta hasn't even attached so very unlikely to have affected the baby. My boy is perfect so no harm done!
