Who has had a negative pregnancy test but been pregnant?

I am late, never really have a totally regular cycle but did a test on Saturday (28 days from last period) which was negative. However, we have been trying and i am feeling extremely tired and slightly sicky. I could perhaps be coming down with a bug or something but wondered how common it is to be pregnant but show as negative in a test.

I got negative tests with both of my children before I got positives.

It may be that it was a bit too early to test. Myabe you should try around now.

Good luck btw!

I had a negative one at about 4 weeks. No idea how that happened but meant I didn't find out I was pregnant until I was 9 weeks At least there was a good explanation for me feeling so ill though!

Test again in a few days - the hormone levels nay not have changed enough to detect. Also, I think if your periods are irregular, the tests tend to be less accurate.

I had negatives on the day AF was due and for 3 days after. If I had not kept vomiting I would have given up testing. Lucky I didn't give up because after 4 days I got a very faint positive and now have a gorgeous baby girl.

Happened with my 2nd child - had similar symptoms as 1st (lighter period) but came back negative. Didn't find out until 13 weeks as was so sure that you couldn't get a false negative. And I didn't test too early, I would have been about 5.5 weeks gone and I used 2 different test kits, clear blue and first response.

Not really that convinced that the test worked properly. Followed instructions and it took a good 2 minutes to even do anything and that was after i juggled it around and then it took about 5 minutes to produce the negative response. It was First Response that i used, maybe i should try a different brand. Feeling very excited at the thought.

hiya marshmellow

i feel pg been having fertility treatments and meant to wait week after i finished which would be next tuesday if dont bleed before. but i tested with first response as its meant to be so good. the test was negative so i rang first response and apparantley the test measures 25ml of hcg in urine which is the same as the tests sold at our local pound shop believe it or not so i have ordered a test called ultra pregnancy test which measures 10ml of hcg in urine.

Well....i started this thread with a test with a negative and today i had a postitive!!! Wouldn't even had bothered re-checking had it not been for the advice on here. THANKS. Now fretting about the fact that i have been smoking (have not had one since pos result and will not now - baby is enough willpower for me). Haven't been drinking but am worried about the 15 a day roll ups! Worked out i must be 4 weeks, could damage have been done?

Could be a multiple pregnancy. The extra hormones skewifs the hormone levels and presents a false negative.

congratulations marshmellow
Dont worry about any smoking you have done, just make sure you dont continue to smoke now. I did much worse when I was just PG with DS as I hadnt got a clue... I was 21- that's my excuse anyway! BTW he is fine!

congrats!

If you are able to stop all bad habits once you know, then you've done everything you can.

I had x-rays in 1st few weeks of both pgs - one dental and the other was on my ankle, but didn't wear shield as didn't think i was pg either time. Both were healthy babies

Thanks - just broken news to dh who is happily pondering over names. Still in a state of shock really, surprised how sick i feel very early on and how bloated!

Congratulations Marshmellow!

With ds1 I had a negative when my period was due and a week later thought 'oh, I've still not come on have I, better do another test' - which came up with a v strong positive seconds after I did it!

Sending you lots of happy and healthy pregnancy vibes!

Me. And almost everyone else I know. False negatives are incredibly common.

Just finshed reading thread! Congratulations, marshmellow. Not to worry about smoking, lots of us did it before knowing we were pg, gave up for pg and many months after, and then like a silly bint (speaking for myself here, of course) started again. Perhaps this time will give you the incentive to give up for good! Well done!!
