Anyone done or doing Clomid/ovidrel/IUI?

Would love to hear from anyone taking this route ttc. I'm DOR and dh has low morphology but an amazing count and motility. So whenever af shows up in two weeks or so I'm starting Clomid, then doing a hcg trigger injection and then IUI. Hoping for success getting 2-3 good eggs to drop and putting the swimmers practically next to them!

Hi snowdog, af is due for me in 2 and a half weeks then I'm doing Clomid plus ovitrelle (is that the same?) but timed intercourse not iui. So similar, but not exactly the same.

DH has low morphology and motility, so if I'm perfectly honest I'm not holding out much hope. But, I like your positivity!

How long have you been ttc? 18 months here Sad

Snow I'm just waiting for my letter to start clomid + IUI - she thinks June / July is when it will happen.

Not sure if they will give me a trigger - it doesn't say anything in the info sheet she gave me.

I have unexplained infertility and been trying 15 months.

Me! I did clomid CD3-7 and triggered CD 13 (yesterday). Not doing IUI, though, just timed intercourse and FX. Secondary infertility here, have tried clomid on its own for 2 cycles and now trying with trigger before having to move on. I think it's worth trying clomid on its own before adding in the trigger because it comes with a higher risk of multiples.

maplebaby · 11/05/2016 14:42

Eaiand just wondering how many scans you had before the trigger? I'm worrying about how to get out of work for them all!

Thanks all! Great to hear from others on this crazy journey! I've been trying over a year but with my AMH so low my RE is wanting to start quite aggressively. I'll be on 100mg Clomid and I've already warned dh I'll be a crazy woman so he's got permission to retreat to his man cave as long as he produces the goods when needed!
Hoping I'll get 3-4 follies at least as I'm ok with the risk of twins. At 38 nearly I don't want to fanny around.

I can't say I'm fussed about having twins - I was before but now I'll take anything! I am a bit younger though so do have "more time" in that sense. But it doesn't make it easier when you have been trying for ages.

Will this be first time on clomid?? I think I'll only be given 50mg as latest bloods show I did ovulate. Ahh can't wait to get my letter!!

This will be my first time on Clomid. Hoping it works!
I hope you get your letter very soon, it'd be great to have a few buddies online going through this so we can support each other. star I'll be starting the Clomid around May 26th I think. eai oooh good luck!!!

Yes would love a little IUI support group / thread - I will pop in when I get my letter and keep an eye on here for updates in the meantime Smile

Yes - I've started my 6th round of clomid this week. I did successfully conceive my son with clomid 3 years ago (3rd cycle) but I'm not holding out much hope this time around.
IUI will be the next step, so would be really interested to hear of experiences going down that route.

I'm also officially going mad this time! Feel so awful - like constant very very intense PMS!!

Oh eaiand you're in the tww then? Good luck and hope you're staying sane! Any side effects from the Clomid?

snow, I'm right behind you so should be starting 30/31 May if af comes on time. No chance of a last minute miracle for me as oh went off on a stag do yesterday for 5 days and I should ov this weekend. I just want to get going now!

I would really rather not have multiples. My hospital says if there are more than two dominant follicles at the scan then we abandon the cycle. Obviously they can't stop you having sex but it must be to avoid the risk of multiples - not sure I'd be able to abstain in that scenario as I figure more eggs means a better chance of one taking!

Oh and I'm 35 so getting on a bit Wink

Hi Snow and everyone, is it okay if I join as well? I'm due to start IUI either at the end of this month or the end of June - I'll be on gonal f and then ovitrelle for my trigger shot.

Star my doctor is the same and will also abandon the cycle if it looks like more than two mature eggs will be released. It's going to feel like such a letdown if that happens but I see where they're coming from.

Eaiand good luck for your tww!

I started our on the same course but did not respond to Clomid so switched to Puregon injections mid cycle, monitored the eggs every 4 days. Then Ovidrel trigger and IUI. Worked on the first cycle with DC1. I'm currently 15 weeks pregnant with DC2 after 3 rounds of the same treatment. Each time I triggered with only one egg as I suffer from PCOS so we took it very slowly with follicle stimulation. Good luck!

Welcome Genghis to our little club. Fingers crossed for some bfps in the next few months. How long have you been ttc?

Congratulations Kimball! How amazing that it worked both times, it's great to have a success story. All the best for the rest of your pregnancy Smile

Welcome genghis and cuddle! Just de-lurking to say hello - I'm waiting for my letter still but hope to start IUI with clomid in July.

Kim you hear people skipping straight to IVF or how they wouldn't have bothered with IUI so your story gives me hope!

Mine info sheet doesn't say how many follicles before they cancel - it just says "too many". I suspect it will be similar to everyone else's though!

Hi all 😊☕️🍰 Fab to see so many of us! Was starting to feel like the world was doing Ivf and no one did IUI any more. It's great to hear it can and does work. I'm in the USA now and my health insurance through dh work will pay for 6 medicated cycles of IUI before it will authorize Ivf but there's a limit on how much they'll pay in total which means basically Ivf is off the table for now as its bloomin expensive. Hoping one of the IUI will work!
My RE said they'll go ahead with IUI with up to 5 follies as statistically it's highly improbable more than 2 would take. My dh laughed and said watch us get quints out of this. I said nope just nope. I'm already overweight I can't imagine carrying more than 2! But I'd be so happy with 1-2 maybe 3 if we hit the less than 1% jackpot.
Am currently 5dpo in my last "natural" cycle. With dh low morph I doubt it'll be a bfp so I'm just hanging on til the 22nd or so when af will show up and my Clomid cycle can begin!

Snow hopefully you will get a bfp with 6 cycles! I think the percentage of success goes up with each cycle? Might be totally wrong!

I've just started spotting today, earlier than usual so feeling sorry for myself - I know it won't happen but I always have a bit of hope each cycle!

Report
Snowdog37 · 13/05/2016 12:05

My RE says the stats are 30% within the first 3 cycles and 80% within 6. The remaining percentage often have success with Ivf. But there's always a few couples who nothing will work for, I'm hoping we don't fall into that category. He seems optimistic as my only "issue" is low AMH, and my dh low morphology and medicated IUI will deal with both of these. Fingers crossed!

Thanks snow it's brown spotting though and I always get this before AF so although I'd love to think it was implantation I know it's not! Woe.

Yes I keep googling "IUI success stories"! One we can all be success stories! I wish I got 6 goes with those success rates! But my clinic already skipped natural IUI (I guess because better success medicated) and it's on NHS so I guess that's why they don't do that many? No idea! Also with the postcode lottery I only get 1 go IVF! So really hoping this works!

Thanks for the welcome everyone! Just for info, I'm 35, ttc1 and this is cycle 17.

Snow I was the same - everywhere I looked everyone was skipping IUI and going straight to IVF. We've been advised to try IUI for 6 months (attempts?) and then move to IVF. Unfortunately DP travels a lot for work so we've had to skip a potential IUI cycle already :( Part of me is happy to try IUI first as it seems a lot less invasive but part of me worries about the success rates, so definitely good to hear success stories.

Star I didn't realise there was the option for mediated followed by well-timed dtd - may I ask the reasons? Please don't answer if you don't want to.

Maple Sorry about the spotting - with af arriving early, will that affect when you start iui, or will you still have to wait?

I hope everyone has a lovely Friday!

Genghis it doesn't affect IUI at all as I'm still waiting for my letter with appointment to see the nurse to get the ball rolling! My consultant said she thinks my appointment will be in June and then start first IUI cycle in July. I thought I would join in now anyway as interested to know everyone's experience seeing as I shouldn't be too far behind and to keep fingers crossed for you all!

Genghis, similar story here - 35 and ttc 18 months. Whilst I don't wish long term ttc on anyone, it does feel good to meet people who don't (unlike ALL my real life friends) fall pregnant within two or three months of trying.

I really don't know the reasons for this treatment option to be honest. I thought we were going straight for icsi (we have male factor) but then at my appointment last week she recommended this for the next few cycles. I'm sure I ovulate which I confirm with temping but I have a high antral(?) follicle count and high AMH. so, whilst I don't have pcos my consultant thinks that my ovaries might be too tightly packed with follicles that I'm not actually ovulating naturally. She dismisses temping and tends to conflate it with LH and says we can't be sure I ovulate and with Clomid and the trigger we will know for certain that an egg is released. I don't know why she went for timed intercourse rather than iui. I didn't think to ask, but now I'm thinking that iui would be better especially considering outr male factor issues (low motility and morphology). Anyway, i think it's worth a shot for a couple of cycles and then maybe I'll talk to her about switching to iui. Sorry for the essay, bet you regret asking!

Hope everyone's doing well.

Sorry Maple, I forgot you said you had to wait for the letter - hopefully July flies in for you. I probably won't be starting until the end of June so we're kind of in the same boat!

That's really interesting Star (and not too long!)...it sounds like your doctor wants to try other options before moving to ivf - I like that thinking but I just wish everything didn't take so long. I actually haven't had cd21 tests so am quite glad to be taking the drugs to be sure I ovulate as well (though not looking forward to dildocam).

I hope everyone's having a great weekend!

Lovely weekend here ☀️ I live in Massachusetts now and it's just lovely. I'm 7dpo and crampy and feeling sick. Way too early and probably due to the over consumption of bacon and eggs and hash browns for brunch! Only a week to go till next cycle. I'm feeling so positive about the Clomid that I will probably crash hard if it doesn't work. 😕
