OPK sticks instead of a pregnancy test. Surely not??

Can you? I've got a stash upstairs. Im sure I once read on MN that it's possible to use them but how would that work??

AF not very late cycles range from 24-30 days. I'm on day 32. Negative pregnancy test yesterday afternoon (using a clear blue original) so not morning wee. I've only ever got a positive when at least 4 days so holding off a few more days to use the other CB.

Just wondered if anyone had used an ov stick and got two lines? Does that even mean a BFP?

I used an OPK on the day my period was due as I had ran out of HPTs. I got two very strong lines instantly! In order for it to act as a pregnancy test both lines have to be as dark as each other.

As soon as I had the positive OPK I ran to ASDA to buy a HPT and it came back as definitely pregnant Grin

I got a gloriously strong +ve OPK as AF would've been due and was delighted! Short lived, I'm afraid, as AF arrived the following day. LH surges aren't uncommon at other times in the month... If AF is late, grab an HPT. Puts a stop to any false hopes from a +ve OPK.

You can use them yes BUT the test line has to be strong or stronger than the control line..if you're using them to detect pregnancy a faint line on an OPK is not a positive (as it would be in a normal preg test) LH and HCG have a very similar molecular make up. LH is present in a woman's system most of the time in varying degrees, hence a faint OPK when you test at anytime of the month. Hope this helps!

Thanks for all your replies. Will wait a few more days and do a proper pregnancy test. No point in getting confused over what I'm reading.

I found out I was pregnant by taking OPKs and being confused why I was getting strong positives day after day. I did a pregnancy test to confirm though, I didn't trust the result that much!

Best to wait a couple of days if you can, just buy a cheapie pregnancy test - they're all the same.

I did an OPK day before my period just for the sake of it, as had no pregnancy tests at home. Faint positive so sent DH to buy three different brands of preg tests; all positive. But VERY faint.

I then kept doing tests for about a week!!

I'm 13 weeks now, had three scans so far and all well. Everything crossed.

Good luck Flowers

OPKs can pick up HCG as well as LH but some people get a LH surge just before AF now so you wouldn't be able to tell whether it was a pregnancy or AF on the way if you got a positive without using an HPT to confirm it. You might as well jsut get the HPT.
