High prolactin levels

Hi, this is my first post and I hope someone may be able to help. I've recently had day 2 and 21 blood tests which both showed high levels of prolactin. All my other results were normal. I am on a waiting list to see an endocrinologist, but just wondered if anyone else had any experience of this and were you treated and was the treatment successful? I was wondering if it is usual to need to see an endocrinologist rather than be treated by a GP for this, I didn't think to ask GP at the time but my research suggests some tablets should be able to quickly bring the levels down. I'm wondering whether to go back to GP and request the tablets to see if they work first before seeing the consultant. Any advice or insight would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Yes and I was treated by an endocrinologist. It's not something the GP will treat, you need to see a specialist.

How high was your prolactin? I have a prolactinoma and had to have an MRI scan to diagnose this before starting treatment. The mediation bought my levels right down and I have since had a baby.

Hi Jibber, thanks for your response. Congratulations on your baby and I'm sorry to hear you've had this too. My levels were not too high, 585 on day 2 and 982 on day 21. My GP didn't think this was likely to indicate a prolactinoma but I assume the consultant will be able to shed more light. Unfortunately the waiting list is crazily long so I was thinking about alternatives but it sounds as though seeing the endocrinologist will be necessary.
Thanks again, its nice to know I am not alone as I'd never even heard of prolactin til recently, never mind know anyone who has had a similar issue.
