They said it is separation anxiety. They prescribed liquid melatonin which they said would work but he can only have it for 8 weeks Confused

Cupcake92 · 16/02/2016 19:48

Oh gosh Confused separation anxiety?
I guess that's why he cries when H has him?
My brother is autistic and that's what they wanted to give him to help him fall asleep at night. Supposed to calm them and stop anxiety.
Are u gong to give it a go?
I think it'd be worth it just to see if it works

Did your brother have it?

I feel very uneasy about it. I have been doing reading dr Google and that seems to suggest it shouldn't be given under 12 yrs Confused

Report
Cupcake92 · 16/02/2016 20:22

No he never had it only because his dad (my moms ex husband!) wouldn't Allow it Hmm tho he's better off having it if I'm honest because he's now 14 years old and mom still has to sit by his bed till he falls asleep.
And I know quite a lot of people who's children are younger than 12 who take melatonin, some as young as ur DS tbh.

I was reading online and some pages said they get addicted to it and it can actually make them worse as then they can't fall asleep without it. And also it can apparently affect their sexual maturity or something.

And then the other thing is, I suffer from sleep paralysis because I produce too much melatonin or maybe ds just left his in my body Hmmbut I would hate for that to happen to him.

Does it work ok for the people you know that use it? No side effects etc.

Report
Cupcake92 · 16/02/2016 21:58

I've not heard about the sexual maturity thing Confused
Yes it's worked for the people I know, only thing is after about a year most of their children had their doses upped as it can stop working as the body gets used to it
I've not heard them say anything about side effects either no

Just markng my place on the new thread so I can find you all. We are on DH's half-term so are in Yorkshire for a few days.

DS is exhausted today- he has been busy all day. He was asleep by 7.30 tonight. We are hoping for a bit of a lie in tomorrow. Lunch at PIL with grandma, two old family friends and and SIL and BIL so that will be nice.

It's so hard knowing what to do. He had a good night last night. He woke up once at 4 but just wanted me to hold his hand then slept until just after 5. How is your ds1 sleeping now cupcake?

Hope you have a nice week together lulu.

Have you felt any improvement yet cupcake or do they take a while to kick in?

Today's the first day I've noticed a slight difference. I haven't been stressed whilst cleaning for the inspection tomorrow. Where normally I'd be getting chest pains I'm that stressed.
Atm I just feel kind of flat, If that makes sense? Just seem to have one flat mood.
They said it can take up to 4 weeks to fully have an effect

New boiler?

That's great!!

We have just been to see dd and then to the park. Ds insisted on walking the whole way so it took AGES. He gets so distracted and has to investigate everything. But he's now asleep. Fingers crossed he stays asleep so I can make some fajitas for lunch Smile I'm starving!

Well we are back home. DH took DS out this afternoon and has worn him out on the beach. He was asleep by 7 tonight- flat out. I've bought him some new bedding - it's blue and white seersucker and very cute. It was on offer so he got two sets.

When do they go into a bed? I don't think he is anywhere near that yet but just wondering.

I've had those tablets Cupcake - they worked really well once they got the doseage right. I needed 150mg- it took a while.

What were your fajitas like Ducky? I love fajitas. Might make some this weekend now you've reminded me. Smile

zombiemeow · 18/02/2016 20:49

I didn't make them in the end lulu, I got quorn chicken things to do them with but they had milk in so ds wouldn't have been able to have them. He has beans on toast instead Smile

I would love to go on a beach, what's the weather like you now? It's very cold here.

Cupcake92 · 18/02/2016 21:04

No not a new boiler :( and it's already broke down again! Landlord seriously needs to replace it!!

Oo I love fajitas! Yum yum !

Me and DS has slow cooked lamb and vegetable curry :)

Lulu, I'm hoping the tablets will work well for me too. I go back to the gp for a review in a few weeks.
As for the bed, DS had his cot side off when he was 1 as he tried to climb out and then went in a bed at 1 and a half.
He was ready for it tho.

DS has not tried to climb out yet- well that we know about. He quite likes his cot. If he wakes up he often just plays and talks to himself for a bit. His cot has quite high sides. I am hoping he is settled in it for a while yet. The thought of him wandering round in the middle of the night isn't a good one.

DH and I are in bed and we were cuddled up talking. I said 'You hardly ever say anything romantic' and he said He said 'Why is your skin all scabby?' I have little scratches on my arms and legs from one of our cats having a mad half hour and running over me. Who says romance is dead! He has gone to sleep and I am on my ipad.

zombiemeow · 19/02/2016 06:35

My ds tries to climb out his cot, luckily he can't manage it just yet! But I'd be very worried about him in a bed, he'd definitely get out of that.

That's mad about the boiler cupcake Angry have you told your landlord?

How's ds1 potty training going?

Well we now have childproof catches on cupboard doors after finding DS helping himself to dried cat food - which the cats have very occasionally and is kept in a container. He had pulled the container and got the lid loose somehow.

He moved onto the dresser doors in the dining room but they have a catch so he couldn't open them.

How is the boiler Cupcake? Is it an old house or newish?

Ours will probably need replacing in the next couple of years. I think new ones cost a fortune.

DH is cooking tonight. I am sitting with a glass of elderflower sparkling water and a bowl of kettle chips watching 'Hoarders' and feeling better about my housekeeping.

Looks like u have an explorer Lulu! Grin

It's being very temperamental the boiler. It's not an old property it's fairly new. About 9 years old. But the boiler is just cheap and awful.

What did DH cook Lulu?

How are u and DS ducky? Heard anything about the house?

DS2 has woke up with a high temp of 38.5 :( he's coughing quite bad. Think I'm in for a long night as DS1 has just woke up also Sad
