Hi all
My husband and I started TTC at the yesterday and this morning I have spotting. I know it's way too early to be pregnancy related but I wondered if it's common?
I haven't had a "normal" period in over 2 months so I have no idea where I am in my cycle which is extremely frustrating. I just get random bleeds with no warning that aren't heavy like a period and don't last as long. Any one had anything similar? I could use some reassurance:)

Hi there,

Could it be ovulation bleeding?

Ages ago I went through several years of spotting when I ovulated which I understand is fairly normal. It didn't happen every month but perhaps every 2nd or 3rd and I also found that if I had intercourse around the time of ovulation, I would definitely have a bit of spotting soon afterwards. Also it didn't carry on forever, just lasted a few years then disappeared. I'd confirm with your GP if you're worried but you could also try doing OPKs to see if the bleeding coincides?

Good luck with TTC x

Thanks for your reply :)
I wondered if it was ovulation bleeding but it seems to be all I get, no full blown AF ever. Sometimes they're 2 weeks apart, sometimes, 3 etc. The GP did some tests and apparently all is normal which is great but doesn't make working out my cycle any easier.
What are OPKs?

Oh I see so you're not having normal periods at all. Have you used any chemical birth control before or recently like coils/pills? I'm no gyno but my friend had a coil fitted a few years ago and it was removed but she says she has the same thing now, just random small bleeds that don't seem to have much of a pattern. It's really positive that your GP has checked things and found nothing odd though. If you're itching to work it out, OPKs will help narrow down the conception window (although I found them a complete pfaff and gave up) as you can't go by AF. Alternatively just have sex all the time Wink.

You can get a large batch of OPK test strips which are just as reliable as Boots ones but at a fraction of the price from Amazon by the way.

No, no normal periods Confused
I've not taken the pill or anything, just used condoms so it can't be that either. I have rheumatoid arthritis and so have to be off all medication for 4 months before even thinking about trying and annoyingly it seemed that as soon as we were in the all clear, my body decided to play "see and work out when you're ovulating!" And I don't think coming off the meds could be the cause 4 months down the line

How annoying! There are a few physical symtoms of ovulation you can look out for if you're inclined to. Plenty of advice on it if you Google but I think it can all be a bit hit & miss. I guess it's still very early days and you just have to keep trying. X
