False positive?

Hi,

I have two gorgeous boys. One is 2 this month and the youngest is 6 months. I am on the pill Cerezette and breastfeeding.
The last couple of weeks I have been very emotional, tired, feeling faint, shaky when I have low blood sugar levels, headaches and feeling sweaty and hot at night. Basically my typical pregnancy symptoms.

The last few days I have felt bloated all of a sudden and trying to hide my belly. So I thought I best take a test to rule out pregnancy, even though I thought it unlikely considering I am on the pill!

I took a sainsburys digital test last night and it said Positive. Me and my husband were indeed shocked and in a way, devastated. We only wanted two! We are happy with our family as it is.

Anyway, we started to think more clearly once the shock and tears had somewhat stopped. I took another test this morning and it said not pregnant! Then I purchased a CB digital and a FRER...both negative too.

Am I really not pregnant? Is it really that rare to get a false positive result?

My mind is all over the place. I feel pregnant which is strange too.

I don't know the likelihood of a false positive, but I do know that different pregnancy tests have different sensitivities to the hormones in your pee.

I found Superdrug's early testing kits were very sensitive, whereas the ClearBlue ones took another couple of days for the pregnancy to register.

Best of luck either way! X

I think false positives are very rare. Realistically I think it'll one of the following:

  1. You were pregnant but have had a chemical, and your HCG levels are now dropping hence the change in results.
  2. You are pregnant but it's very early days and only the more sensitive tests were able to pick up enough HCG to give you an answer yet.
Frustratingly you may just have to wait a couple of days before you can get a more conclusive answer. Have you had any thoughts on what you would do if you are pregnant, given that this isn't what you and your DH wanted?

Yes I think you're right KitKat. I don't have a period so no knowing when I would be due to take a test. We have talked about it and if I am pregnant then we will keep the baby (I couldn't have an abortion) and try to manage I suppose! Though the thought of 3 under 3 is very scary, so I will be relieved if I'm not pregnant! My body really struggled with spd at the end of my last pregnancy. Will take a test Monday! If I can hold out that long! I'm desperate for a definitive answer.

Oh you poor thing. The wait to find out conclusively must be very frustrating. Let us know how you get on. xx

Thank you, I will! I keep looking at the positive test and thinking "are you for real?!"
Will probably test first thing tomorrow morning and see what it says.

Negative this morning on a very sensitive pregnancy test First Response. Must of been a false positive. We were just starting to come round to the idea too!
I might go to the doctors this week and get a blood test done to be sure though. Then I can move on from this drama Sainsburys tests have created!

Ahh sorry just seen this update. I'm pleased you are now getting a more definitive result. Best of luck with the bloods. x
