Sorry but I've been dying to say that SOMEWHERE. So bloody excited it's unreal.

Anyway, couple of questions:

Is it true that you get a fertility 'surge' in the first month? Not sure where I read/heard this.

Also when should I start taking folic acid etc? (My first post-pill period has just ended).

Can't believe I'm finally off the blumin pill!

How exciting for you!

I'm not sure I believe the fertility surge. It probably depends who you talk to in that those who got pg straight away would probably disagree with me! It took us 4 months once of the pill last year and I had a couple of odd cycles in that time.

You should start taking it right away. You can buy conception vitamins but I think just standard frolic acid is ample.

Good luck! No don't be disheartened if it doesn't happen immediately. I thought it would happen immediately so it was quite frustrating but you may be one of the lucky ones!

Congratulations! I took my last pill last night and started taking folic acid this morning! (Sainsbury's do 3 months worth of them for like 80p, brilliant!) I'm looking forward to how I'll feel once this period is over, but I'm a bit nervous about how my periods are going to be I've been on the pill for 10 years!
Looking to begin TTC late December :)

I best get cracking with the vitamins then!

I've also been on the pill for ten years - it's going to be interesting to see what my body is like without it.

This is a strange feeling - liberating and terrifying in equal measures.

I know exactly how you feel :) Lovely that we can find others in a similar position on here too, fab place!
Are you going to start trying straight away? x

Yep, if I talked like this in real life people would look at me rather strangely...

We are. We're not getting any younger and are settled and comfortable.

Here's to a sober but fecund (now have an excuse to use that word!) Christmas Star

Don't be surprised if you get some headaches. I suffered with them for 2 months after coming off the pill. It took about 3 months for my cycle to return to normal and 5 months to get pregnant.
Good luck!

I came off the pill after 13years on it got pregnant first month of trying (2nd month off pill). Obviously it doesn't happen like that for everyone but wanted to give you a positive story!

Also start taking folic acid now and maybe vit d, you don't need fancy pregnancy vitamins.

Both my dc were conceived the month I came off the pill, with no period first. Dd1, I'd been on the pill for years, so be prepared just in case! Good luck x

I've been reading 'what to expect before you're expecting' since coming off pill, it's quite useful.

Woo! Came off the pill after 12 years on the 22nd Oct! Had a withdrawal bleed and nothing since. Have felt sicky for about 8 days, sore boobs, cramps, aches and pains and thought AF was coming today but no sign yet!xx

I've been on the pill for over 15 years and am quite worried its going to effect my ability to conceive. I've got an appointment with my gp to talk about coming off the pill & the like but its really nice to read these threads. Hopefully hear some good news from you guys soon Grin

On the positive story point, my friend has just conceived 2 months after coming off the coil & bring told it was extremely unlikely she'd fall pregnant naturally so it does happen Smile

The advice when I was trying to conceive was that you should start taking folic acid three months before you want to start trying. So I took folic acid for the last 3 months of my pill packets before coming off them.

Then it took me 3 years to have DD1.

My AF appeared on Thursday (26th and my withdrawal bleed started on the 26th Oct so 1 month between) but has been quite light and has now almost gone! Hoping this means I'm ovulating well after so long on the pill so hold out hope Natalie!xx

I came off the pill in July (16 years on 2 types of pill) and am now 5.5wks pregnant (and I'm old!)...

I started taking conception vitamins and made DH take them too.

I used an app to track cycles etc, as I had no idea what mine was like. I'd not even had a period in 10 years.

I temped and logged that too, and we DTD every day in my fertile window Grin

Hi OP

Hopefully you will be one of the lucky ones! It took me five months to start OVing after long term BC (well, to get a positive OPK and actually have signs of OV) and the same amount of time for my cycle lengths to reduce down to 28 days (the first was 42 and they gradually decreased each month).

As I fell PG so easily the first time around I stupidly thought it would be the same the second time, but nope.

I was very disappointed the first three months but I've sort of accepted it as a long term thing now - I just don't want you to expect it to happen straight away and then feel down if it doesn't! It's normal for it to take up to 12 months which feels like half a lifetime

Hello! I've just joined as we're going to start trying in the New Year; exciting! I came off the pill in August after 10 years and had a withdrawal bleed as predicted. Then my next two cycles in Oct and Nov were 44 and 47 days respectively. I really hope that these long cycles won't cause us any problems and that I am ovulating, so need to use my OPK. I've been taking Seven Seas Trying for a Baby vitamins since September too, so I hope I've done everything I can so far to help get my body ready.
