So my hubby and I have been trying for 8 months and still no sign of that elusive bfp Sad so decided to go to my GP to get some blood work done.

Results came back and my first month was a 49 (anything over 30 indicates ovulation) the second test was 23 so it means I apparently didn't ovulate the second month. I told the GP I had a positive opk (she sounded surprised on the phone)
ovulation pains and my AF flow was normal only 2 days later than usual.

So what I want to know is:

Is it possible only to ovulate every other month?

Can I have regular cycles and not ovulate?

Sorry for the waffling!

Xx

Hi Mrs. If your period was two days late this month, you might have ovulated two days later than usual. Therefore you might have had your bloods taken two days too early. Progesterone increases significantly eaxh day after ovulation (around 6 nmol/l a day) until it peaks, about a week before your period. It sounds like you might have had your bloods taken as the progesterone was still rising after ovulation, but before it hit its peak. Hope that makes sense! Usually if you haven't ovulated at all, progesterone would be very low - in the single figures rather than double. X

Yes you can have "regular" cycles, i.e. have your period like normal, when not actually ovulating. The OPK's detect an LH surge (before ovulation) but it doesn't mean you've ovulated. Doing BBT will determine if you actually ovulated as your temperature before ovulation is lower than after (and there's usually a dip indicating ovulation).

It's pretty normally to have about 2 annovulatory cycles a year. I doubt you're ovulating every other month (it's not normally a pattern like that). Most likely you just happened to get one of each over these 2 months.
