How common is ovulation bleeding?

Excuse my naïveté!

I was on the pill for about two decades so 'normal' cycles are still a bit of a mystery to me.

I've been off the pill for six months now and my cycles are starting to regulate at 26-27 days. Today though (cycle day 16) I noticed some light pink 'downstairs'.

I was really concerned at first, thinking my period had come two weeks early. (Just turned 38 so am being vigilant to any signs of early menopause.)

I then consulted Dr Google and seen this could be ovulation bleeding. So - is it fairly common? (Am hoping it is this, and not the world's most annoyingly short period.)

I can't help I'm afraid. I have never experienced it.

Are you ttc? Could be implantation bleeding.

Hi yes, I am trying to conceive. However, we only dtd four days ago so guessing this is too early for implantation bleeding?

The cycle I got pregnant I had what I thought was ovulation bleeding for a couple of days mid cycle. I don't know what happened but I had a cd 22 blood test that said no ovulation, then got a BFP on what I thought was CD 39! According to my dates I ovulated around cd 28! It was like I didn't ovulate so started a new cycle after a very light period at 14 days, very odd. I know my previous cycle was 28 days and I ovulated around day 15 according to opk. The body is a strange thing!

Hi Helen - thanks. That is weird! Gives me hope at least that the body is just sometimes a bit strange!

It has happened to me more as I've got older. Started at around 35 between baby 2 and 3 and has started again, post baby 3. It can get heavy enough to consider a tampon.

If your cycles are returning to normal it's worth trying opks, although I only ever got one positive the month before my BFP. Or you can ask your doc for blood tests, mine had no problem doing them and I'm 35 and had only been Ttc for 3/4 months.

I had implantation bleeding. It was exactly a week before my period was due. It was very very light as in not enough for a pad. It was light in colour for a bit then went quite dark. I had a heightened sense of smell and was really tired for the days I had it so I felt like something was going on and I took s test a few days later which was positive! From what I understand it's quite rare to have it xx

Hmm yes Suzie it's so hard to know what's due to my age or not. I've been never been pregnant, and was on the pill from 18 to 37 (stupidly over cautious).

Broomy I'm wondering if the bleeding is ovulation related really. (Not hopeful enough to think it might be implantation. A born pessimist Smile)

Helen yes I'm actually due to have my Day 20 (because I have shorter cycles) progesterone test this coming Monday. I wondered if this was a period will that render the appointment pointless. Will have to wait and see how long this bleeding goes on for, I guess.
