so after a long wait, at which at the beginning my helpful partner mansplained 'we'll be pregnant by then anyway', the day's arrived for PCOS screening, and no, we're not pregnant.

Will the nurses be able to tell me if they can/can't see anything or do they feed it back to doctors? What should I be asking while I'm there?

I'm certain my mind will be preoccupied with nerves & needing to pee so want to be prepared.

Hi, I'm afraid I can't offer any advice or answer to your questions, but I have a scan on Wednesday morning and I am wondering the same kind of things as you. Have you had the scan yet? Let us know how it goes. And I hope someone is along soon to offer you some advice x x

I am no expert but do have pcos. Yea the nurse should be able to tell you and should also be able to show you. Polycystic ovaries have a very distinct look which is hard to describe. It maybe worth asking how many you have(if any) on each ovary which will give you an idea of the severity of pcos.
Then arrange an appointment with the doctor to discuss the scan and what's next. For this you fo need a clear of what you want next.
Hope all goes well

My dd hd a scan for this recently. The Dr that did the scan told her straightaway that she has it. He advised going back to the GP to discuss possible help for her symptoms.
What symptoms are you all experiencing?

I only have 1 symptom. I came off the pill in November. I had the usual bleed after stopping and since then I have had no natural period. My GP gave me Norethisterone in January to induce a withdrawal bleed and do the Day 3 blood tests, which were 'normal', but I still haven't had a period. It's been 5 months now. So frustrating! Other than that, I don't have any symptoms.

toohard if you do nothing else, write down the date of your scan and follow up with a gp appt to discuss the results. Wish i'd done that instead of trying to remember what happened 6 years later and needing to ask the surgery receptionist to go through my record with me over the phone!

When I had my PCOS scan the sonographer saw it pretty quickly and let me know. If you have it, your ovaries will be slightly larger, and the cysts show up like a line of pearls around the edge.

I've subsequently had an ultrasound scan to look at the number of follicles my ovaries were developing and the nurse in that case mentioned that she could clearly see that I had PCOS.

Hi guys,

Been for scan: she said didn't see anything to worry about & just asked when last LMP was - is that normal?

Got to book an appointment next week with GP to discuss

Thank you for all your replies x

Wanting to bump this.

Is it normal when getting checked for PCOS to ask for your last lmp even though no pcos showing? I don't know whether to be worried or hopeful she'd seen something. Gaw TTC doesn't half make you clutch at straws! Wink

Radiographers will usually give you an indication if they see something they're not happy with, i.e. at my latest scan they told me there and then what they had found. If they've told you there is nothing to worry about then there probably isn't. They'll want to try and pinpoint where you are in your cycle, that's why they'll be asking about your lmp. Sounds like good news to me.

Thanks Tink, that will see me through until Tuesday's visit to doctor.

toohardtothinkofaname

When I had a PCOS scan (many years ago) she said the lining looked thick so could indicate pregnancy (I was late as always)

Unfortunately it was not pregnancy on that occasion but that may be why she asked.

Hey ladies. I recently had a scan and was told I had one large cyst on one ovary, so just waiting for a follow up scan to check if the size has increased or decreased.

No idea how or if this affects my fertility!

Good luck everyone x

Number3cometome; that's what I was clutching at straws at but I've check my temps on and off and they're still quite low. My lymph node has been swollen the last couple of days so hoping OV is on the way and that's what she'd spotted.

Helloall1 - the only thing I was worried about PCOS was the possible weight or hair gain, the fertility side didn't really worry me as there are so many success stories and self-help/medication available to help couples along. Let me know how your follow up goes & until then, happy practicing!
