zinc is supposed to be good for improving sperm quality/count.

Zinc won't do him any harm but I would have to say that many drugs have been tried to improve sperm count without success. He may want to cut down on alcohol consumption and if he does smoke, stop smoking. Simple measures like these and others like wearing loose fitting boxer shorts may help but are not guaranteed cure alls for such problems.

Sperms are complicated things and there is much about them we do not fully understand.

One "poor" sperm count does not necessarily mean there is a problem; such tests therefore should be repeated. The exact nature of the problem needs to be determined. Has he for instance been medically examined by a urologist for varicocele?.

my DH's sperm count went from 14.5mil to 60mil. The one thing he did was significantly reduce his coffee intake (which was absurdly high before).

This is less likely to help than other suggestions, but my brother had low sperm count, but eventually they found out that he had low testosterone, and he started injections and they then conceived after trying for several years. Might be worth checking, just to rule it out

Ok, I agree with the other post, one low sperm count does not mean it will stay that way. My first husband had a low sperm count, no bike riding for him as well, anyway, it took us 7 months to conceive so it does not mean at all that it wont happen. I'm with 2nd hubby now and I'm 38, had all the bloodwork done for me, everything fine, so unfortunately I'm afraid to have him go in for testing, we have been ttc for 4 months so doc says it might be him, why me twice???? Oh well, I had success with the first one. Just have sex the day before ovulation, the day of and the day after since there is a low count they probably wont stick around long to fertilize an egg is what we were told back then, lay for 30 minutes after sex don't get up right away, he was on top when I conceived also, hope this helps!!

My dh has been diagnosed with a low sperm count, and we've been told that IVF is the only way we'll have kids. I would urge your friend to speak to her consultant and find out what her treatment options are.

In the meantime she might find some useful tips on this website: www.urologychannel.com/maleinfertility/treatment_alternative.shtml

Hugs,
Artoo.
