Am I pregnant? Yes, that old chestnut...

I'm just entering the dreaded 2ww and I'm feeling a bit peculiar. I've never been pregnant before so I was wondering if any of the following sounded familiar from early pregnancy to more experienced ladies? (warning TMI ahead...)

  • bloaty, tender, don't-want-to-lie-on-my-front feelings in lower tummy - very like how I feel just before AF except not due for 12 days
  • spots like a teenage boy
  • peeing a lot
  • weirdly bright yellow pee
  • insomnia (very usual for me, usually I sleep like a log)
  • I just 'feel' different than how I usually do at this point in my cycle

I know the only answer is to POAS in 12 days - but does this sound at all promising? I'm a bit of a newbie! Blush

Hi KnitFast!

I don't want to rain on the enthusiasm but these are basically progesterone symptoms. If you've just entered the 2ww you are getting a surge of progesterone that causes all this sort of thing (certainly does with me - month in, month out!). I got really excited the first time I experienced this having got off birth control for the first time and having an au natural cycle. I was convinced I was preggers and crushed when I wasn't.

I don't think there would be any real hormonal changes that are pregnancy related until after implantation and that's usually around 10 days post ovulation.

....but.... hey, some ladies here swear they just know the minute they did the deed and they just felt totally different immediately after ovulation. So keep those fingers crossed, because maybe...

p.s. I'm also in the 2WW and have sore boobs, spots, constipation.. etc.! Delightful! Blush

Yeah sorry but you're unlikely to get pregnancy symptoms until you are producing hcg which happens after implantation around 7-12dpo. The yellow wee could be vitamins if you are taking any.......

Fx for you though Smile

Haha thanks! I've not got my hopes up and as i am going to a gig next month I'm secretly kind of hoping it's a no Wink so that I can have a few beers!

I will be stunned if we actually did conceive on round one so I guess I'm trying to mentally prepare myself .... if not there's a large g&t with my name on it as soon as AF arrives Grin

Re the progesterone thing, you are probably right - the only thing is, I've been off hormonal bc for 6 months now (but using condoms) so I've got a pretty good idea of my cycle. Of course it is more likely that I'm just getting ill, it being cold season!

It's a fun time isn't it? Having spent my entire teenage years and early twenties under the impression that I'd be up the duff if I so much as looked at a man, it's a shock to realise just how much has to go right each month for us to actually get pregnant when we want to!
