Advice Needed on Clomid Side Effects Please

Hi,

I have been ttc for years and am about to start taking Clomid today. I am really excited, but nervous. I have been advised to take it on days 2-6.

Can anyone tell me what to expect in terms of side effects. I don't know if this makes a difference or not, but I tend to get quite bad PMS-very emotional & pain in ovaries and lower back plus headaches.

I will put up with anything if it means I finally get pregnant, but would like to be prepared. (And warn my poor husband!)

First of all, good luck and fingers but not legs crossed that it works for you!
I conceived twice on clomid after 7 years ttc. Unfortunately I miscarried the first and this pregnancy looks like it could be going the same way (but it's not over till it's over so I'm trying to be positive).
The side effects can be terrible I'm afraid. Mood swings, oh the mood swings! I had the rage over every little thing and wasn't even rational enough to apologise to DH each time he bore the brunt of it. Hot flushes, like full on sweating were another joy I experienced. I had painful cramps around the time of ovulation too, which turned out to be a positive actually as I knew exactly when I needed to up my game. Both times I got pregnant were when I started the clomid on day 3 rather than day 2 but my cycle is generally 30 days rather than 28.

Oh and take it with food if you can, or just before bed - both if possible. I felt really sick after taking it if I didn't eat and the second brand I was given left a horrible after taste so I had to take it with a flavoured drink rather than water. The first brand I had were coated so didn't have a flavour, hopefully you will have them instead.

I would reiterate take them at night... I had hot flushes in the night... Not too bad and just felt abit 'off' in the day... Side effects obviously vary from person to person but hopefully they are a means to an end good luck !

Thank you. It is really good to have some reassurance from people that have been through this. I took my first tablet last night & feel ok so far, but I guess it is early days. I have warned dh that I may turn into a sweaty emotional mess!

Chubbymummy I really hope things turn out well for you. I will keeep my fingers crossed. X

How are you finding your first month on clomid Nomio?

Headaches and dodgy eyes (can't think how else to explain.
Definitely take before bed and I would do any stressful exercise on the days you take it, made feel rotten - plus emergency service vehicle lights when running made me feel drunk! Good luck

I seem to have been pretty lucky. I followed your advice and took it before bed, which I think helped.

I got hot flushes & night sweats while taking it & for a couple of days after, then they died down. I have been a bit emotional & hungry, but it seems to have worked, so I don't care!

I have been checking with opk's every day & actually had a smiley face on Sunday (meaning ovulation) so we have been dtd furiously ever since!

Fingers crossed.

How are you doing chubbymummy? Is the baby still hanging on? I really hope things are good for you. X

Early days for me and I had a BFP at the weekend, cycle 4 of clomid. I hadn't ovulated before this cycle! Have everything crossed that it sticks.
I found the side effects worse as the dose increased - Hopefully you won't have to go through increased doses!

Yes, it's still hanging on at the moment but I've been given a 50% chance of miscarrying so only time will tell.
I forgot to say that my cycles became longer with the clomid (about 36 days instead of my usual 30) which had me convinced I was pregnant when no period arrived. I've got my fingers crossed for you getting a BFP.
Lam1, congratulations you must be over the moon!

Chubbymummy I am so sorry to hear that. I really hope your little bean is stubborn & keeps hanging on.

LAM1 Congratulations! You must be so excited!

Sadly, no bfp for me this month. Af arrived yesterday, 3 days early, so I will be going for round 2 of Clomid this month.

Did any of you notice your periods were different when on the tablets? I have way more pain than normal & am bleeding more heavily too. I thought the opposite was supposed to happen.

Sorry you didn't get your BFP this month.
Yes My cycles were longer and I bled much heavier but for less days each cycle.

My latest scan showed that my baby's heart has stopped beating. I'm devastated and just waiting to miscarry now.
