Ttc and bf

I have a one yr old and am bf 4-5 times in 24 hrs. I'm due to rtw in a few weeks, so expect bf will decrease further, but am ttc at the moment.

My periods haven't returned as yet and I'm wondering whether I need to wait until I stop bf.

Just wanting experiences from others and advice...

It would be harder (but definitely possible) especially while BF and as your periods are not returned. Prolactin is the hormone that produces milk and suppresses menstruation and ovulation. Once these hormone levels start to drop, you might start ovulating again. Prolactin levels can be lowered if you start reducing feedings. Night weaning can be very effective in triggering your body to start ovulating again.
Even though your periods are turned back, it won’t be similar as they were before pregnancy. They would be irregular, completely stop and start again and like that. In 95 percent of cases, your first period after childbirth will not be preceded by ovulation. After you have that first period, though, you should be fertile once again. If you are so stressed, try OPK strips to see if/when you are ovulating; they would give you a better clue as to when to try.

My periods didn't return until I night weaned DS when he was 18 months. As soon as I stopped breastfeeding at night my period returned within 2 weeks. I'm still breastfeeding a couple of times a day and my periods are fairly regular.
