Sorry to be an uneducated twit with this stuff. I just randomly did an opk dip test - I've just been feeling funny the last few days so thought why not.
There's definitely 2 lines. It's been a week since I ovulated. So I sort of panicked and dipped a hcg test too - bfn.

Is my body just a little weird?

Hmm ok there are two scenarios here:

  1. You are pregnant - but a HCG test should show that before a OPK test does

  1. You haven't ovulated yet, are you sure you ovulated. Could you link your chart?

I'm not sure if certain medical conditions can cause strange LH surges, so there is that as a third option. I heard that PCOS could do that and as such those with PCOS don't use LH OPK's because they are not accurate for them. But I don't know if that's true?

Hi siari, thank you for replying.

I'm not charting or anything, i just went by symptoms of ewcm and timings. It's definitely possible I could ovulate late as I only recently got my cycle back after 2 years of depo repercussions. But I don't have the ewcm anymore?
You are right with opk's not being great for those with PCOS, a friend of mine has PCOS and before her diagnosis she was getting positives every single time throughout the month.

Can I just say your username makes me hungry! haha.

Last cycle I came off the pill and I got a positive OPK (or near positive) so thought yes ovulation but my temps did not rise to confirm it. Then I got another positive OPK a week or so later with a temp rise so it was confirmed ovulation.

It will be hard for you to confirm ovulation without temping your BBT, I have known people to say they have a positive OPK before a HCG so I guess it's a wait and see scenario xx

Hi Sunbathingcat. I'm cd21 and usual cycle length is 28/29 days.

Looking at the opk, the test line is just a shade lighter than the control line so may be negative. I don't usually test at all, just want to make sure my body works after having depo. As for ttc, we're not trying but not preventing if that makes sense?
Hope the picture is better...

My OPK's don't go as dark as Sunbathing's, they match the control line but thats it. I would say you might be ovulating now to be honest, you can have a positive OPK, EWCM all the signs of ovulation but your body doesn't do it. The only way to confirm is by charting your temp and seeing it rise, so if you really want to make sure I could suggest doing that.

It's why I do it because I wanted to make sure just like you. I would BD now :D

Hi CherryPie . Something similar has happened to me this month - had positive OPK last Sunday, which tied in with my usual cycle, ovulation symptoms and a temp peak. OPKs went back to negative, until Thurs when a faint line showed up again - I think it was strong enough to be classed as negative by Sat, and I had EWCM but no further fluctuations in temp. So confused and slightly terrified that something is wrong, (like undiagnosed PCOS).

I'm afraid I'm not much help and have gatecrashed your post a bit!

I'm afraid to start temping because DH will think I'm obsessing lol. He doesn't get it if he doesn't know anyone else who does it! He classes it as not normal. Hmm Doesn't matter how many times I try to explain to him, he's very set in his ways.

He understanding dtd however so there'll be no complaints tonight Wink

Janey gate crash away my dear, I am fairly clueless but these ladies know their stuff :)

I used persona prior to DC 1. Weed on a stick eight times a month etc. avoided red days all by the book. Then fell preggo!! Had a v early scan due to abdo pain and the sonographer was able to date the v early fetus as having been conceived the day that my v regular period would have been due!? Go figure!!

Did you dip the opk in FMU? If so you tend to get a near positive doing that at all times of the month. Also, and I am a long term TTCer so am long in the tooth at this stuff, you do seem to be able to get opks to give a near pos as AF approaches. I really don't know why though.

I have weeed on opks when pregnant and I tend to agree that you get a pretty strong positive in that case, like the photos above.

I know it's not what you want to hear but I have had so many occasions with opks where I have really thought an hpt was going to give me a positive and been bitterly disappointed. So my advice is buy in a load of cheap hpts and piss on those instead, leave the opks in the drawer.

No it wasn't fmu, it was 10 minutes prior to starting this thread Grin

I think it's a good idea to get in a load of cheapy hpts, the one I used today is about 3 months old so I didn't buy it especially. It was just stuck in the bathroom medicine box for a rainy day lol. I've got about 75 opk's in already though as I honestly thought my body was faulty after depo so was testing every day. Then af finally arrived after 2 years and I didn't use them anymore, until today!

sebsmummy1 that's interesting; I didn't know that. But I'm so confused - the positive test that fitted with the temp rise was with FMU, but the one without any temp fluctuation was in the afternoon. Argh! Also wondering if going camping skewed my temp monitoring this month.

I'm doing the Clearblue trial next month with the dual hormone tester next month, so maybe that will help. I know I'm not pregnant, I would really just like to know I'm ovulating, (as much as one can, without the blood tests)

cherrypie I'm glad to hear that your DH is understanding Wink

That's not a positive test unfortunately. It has to be same if not darker than the control line.

I think at this stage it's 50/50. If it's been 7 days since you ovulated the egg has probably not even implanted yet. It implants on average on day 9 (generally between 6 and 12dpo) and then the hormone has to get into your system. The earliest I have tested positive was 9dpo and then extremely faintly. So wait a few days and then test with a pregnancy test.

Good luck xx

I think opks are just sent to try us to be honest. LH is ever present in urine throughout the months, for some women they will always get a pretty good line on any day. Also women with PCOS tend to have problems with ovulation kits as they will get lots of positives throughout the month.

I struggle because I drink a lot throughout the day and so never seem to manage to hold my wee for three hours so my wee is never concentrated enough in the afternoon for a decent reading.

Yeah second test is definitely negative. So I'm figuring we did tonight just to see. Whether it's pregnancy or more likely ovulation, DDT won't do any harm and keep DH smiling haha.

Thanks for all your replies, it's not an exact science this ttc and 2ww lark is it?
The earliest I ever tested positive on a hpt was 10dpo. Think I'll wait a week and retest - AF is due next week anyhow. Well, maybe. I don't know what to think this cycle lol.

:)
