Hi everyone

I came off the pill in December and over the last few months my cycles have been irregular (by only a few days), with very light periods which last only 1 and 2 days. My ovulation seems to be pretty near regular and I can always feel when this happens and which side, quite painful!

This month, my cycle has been different, I thought I'd ovulated 4 days early, I had a twinge (although not as bad and the pain didn't last as long)and a fairly positive OPK. However (2 weeks later) this Sunday I had a stronger pain (like my other ovulation pains) and I took a test and again received a fairly strong positive. Me and my husband then dtd and immediately after, I started my period. This period has been really heavy and yesterday I felt very sick, I had a headache, was dizzy and was absolutely exhausted. Feel better today and I'm still on my period, although lighter and this will be the third day, so longer than previous periods.

I would just like to know, have I ovulated twice, is it possible to ovulate on the day of your period and if yes, is it possible to conceive? Also should I be concerned about this period being different to the others. In some ways I'm thankful that this was heavier as I've been worried that my periods were so light and that my uterus lining would be too think for an egg to implant. So confused an ever so slightly worried. I must admit, I've also been under a lot of stress over the past few months, so was thinking maybe delayed ovulation?

Thanks x

You can release two eggs at roughly the same time (hence fraternal twins), but not ovulate twice in one cycle. You cannot ovulate and then get your period on the same day.
Could be a few reasons for what happened to you this cycle,

  1. You experienced implantation pains second time around and your opks were actually picking up some HCG levels. Have you done a pregnancy test?
  2. You didn't ovulate the first time round and actually ovulated later. You can sometimes get two sets of oestrogen surges - the first one may have not resulted in a progesterone surge hence fairly positive opk but no ovulation. Your body then tried again for a second time around and successfully ovulated later. I have read this is why some women get days and days of the flashing smileys from the Clear Blue digitals.

There could be many reasons why this cycle is different to others, but shouldn't be anything too sinister - doesn't stop us worrying though does it?!
