Conception

If you were on the pill for 10+ years did it take you a long time to conceive?

I have been on pill since 15/16 and am now 28.

DH and I are planning on TTC mid year.

But I'm worried that having been on the pill for so long is going to mean it will take a long time.

Was this the case for you?

I think it probably varies massively.
I was on the pill from 16 to 30 and was pregnant 3 months after coming off it.

No. I was on Marvelon from 15 until 36. Pregnant with DD after one cycle. I went back on it after she was born. Pregnant with DC2 after one cycle.

Not at all what I expected.

Eight months here, but I had irregular periods/long cycles to start with too.

It took me 2 and a bit years after being on it from 15-29. and we only managed it with ivf. It was something that was hugely on my mind and I asked our consultant if being on the pill contributed to infertility. He said there is absolutely no evidence of it and some early research suggests it may even have a protective effect on fertility. In my case I believe my sub fertility is genetic (mum and dad had great problems conceiving me and she was never on the pill).
Good luck!!

It took me five cycles - I'd been on the pill (with a couple of year-long breaks) since I was 16, and I'm now 35. I'm 4 weeks 2 days pregnant, and praying it sticks!

Well when i came off the pill my cycles were all over the place. 60 days 45 days etc. And i had bad skin and dandruff cos i reacted badly to coming off pill. I coukd never figure out when i ovulated. When things finally normalised i got pregnsnt straight away. But i wish i had come off pill earlier.

Nope, on various pills from 15 to 30, came off and conceived straight away - I mean literally a few days later. It was a bit of a surprise tbh, I sort of assumed it would take a while. Good luck Smile

No - conceived on second cycle, weren't trying to time things right or tracking ovulation or anything, and only had sex once that month. I'd been on microgynon 12 years.

I was on microgynon for 10 years from age 14 to 24, came off it and conceived DS first cycle

I didn't even have a period before I became pregnant. Not what I was expecting at all!

2 months but had a mc, then 3 months after that to fall pregnant with DS. Went back in the pill for a year, terrible pms on the breaks which I didn't have before so nurse eventually told me to take 3 packets back to back. Came off at the end of that 3 packets mid November, didn't really try that first month, tried in December but no luck and got BFP mid February.
Good luck

I was on the pill for about 12 years, took me about 13 months after coming off (11 months of ttcing) to get pg. However I'm pretty sure it was a thyroid issue that caused the delay and not the pill.

Long time ago but it took me three months to get pg after coming off the pill.

No. Took ovranette from 17-31 and was pg as soon as I came off it , never went back on and next time I TTC was pg straight away.

Vindicated in taking pill for all those years and Shock about all the times I was cavalier about taking it!

Took Microgynon from 16-27, TTC 19 months and still trying. On waiting list for assisted conception.

Nope, got pg before my first real period after 14 years on various pills.

Have been off the pill since DD was born 2 years ago, taking aaaages to get pg again.

Can't help but wonder whether the pill helped with fertility...

It took me 9 months to get my first period after stopping the pill. I'd been taking it for 20 years. My periods were so erratic after that that I was 17 weeks pregnant before I realised!

Report
Gingeroo · 23/03/2014 19:55

No, I was pregnant within 6 weeks of coming off the pill.

Best of luck!!

It took me about ten cycles.

The doctors say there is no effect on fertility, but if you've been on the pill for a long time it may take a little while for your period to return. But if it takes more than 6 months, go see the GP. The pill can mask underlying fertility problems, such as pcos, but it doesn't create them. If you stop the pill a few months before you want to ttc chances are you will get your cycle back in time for when you're ready. Also, it is not true that you are most fertile just after stopping!

Nope , on it for 11 years (14-25) and took one month Smile
