TTC whilst BF - regular 'cycles' but very thin lining??

My son is 9m old, and for the past three months I've had a tiny amount of spotting every month. Each episode has been EXACTLY four weeks after the previous (pretty much to the hour - it's weird...). I get a lot of slimy mucus, followed by a few spots of blood and then that's it.

DS is still BF (on solids too obviously) and he's down to 4-5 feeds a day.

Am I right in thinking that I'm ovulating but not developing a thick enough womb lining? I've always heard that a regular cycle (which I have) suggests ovulation, but maybe the BF is messing with the womb lining development?

Does anyone have any ideas? We want to start ttc#3 in the new year, so I'd like to have a good cycle by then.

Thanks.

Hi, I've had similar issues with ttc and bf. AF returned about 9 months despite still feeding around the clock, but was very much like yours for several months. I then started monitoring my cycle, bbt etc, i discovered my luteal phase was less than 10 days. Very common when bf but makes it difficult / impossible to conceive.
Ds is now 2.4 and still feeding before bed and then sometimes in the night as we co sleep, but I'm still not pregnant. I haven't been for any tests as I'm sure it's the bf. Having said this though, I weaned ds across the day a couple of months ago and the cycles since have had luteal phases of 13-14 days so things are def heading in the right direction.
I wAs also having days of ewcm prior to ov, eventually ovulating way past day 21. Again, last few cycles I've ov'd on day 15 which is way more normal.
I'd advise you to start charting. See if you are ovulating and check out your LP. If all looks ok, you shouldn't have any problems conceiving when bf. If you identify any issues then at least you can decide if you will need to wean to conceive. Grin

Glad things are moving in the right direction for you - 12/13 days sounds much better!

How did you chart whilst BF? Did you temp after the longest period of sleeping or before you got up (even if that wasn't the longest period)? DS still wakes at least twice in the night...

Yes I'm hopeful things are getting back to normal. The last 2 -3 cycles have been pretty much the same as pre pregnancy ones, but they are the first in almost 3 years so fingers crossed.
You will meet lots of people who do fall pregnant bf but I'm obviously more sensitive and I've def prescribed ecological bf (Google it) which is supposed to space babies at 2-3 years.
As for charting, it's tricky. I tend to temp whenever ds wakes for boob and I think oh yes I've had 3 hours sleep! Ds tends to start wriggling around lots from 6 onwards so no good waiting til I wake up as there is no way I will have had enough unbroken sleep. It's usually around 3-4 am. Some temps are clearly way out but I can always see an increase after ov. Grin
