Confused after miscarriage... any advice please?

I had a medically managed mc at 10 weeks. I had 2 scans 2 weeks apart, the 1st showing a heartbeat, the 2nd showing the baby had died shortly after the 1st scan.

I bled for about 2 weeks and the nurses at EPU had confirmed everything had passed (based on what they had examined, no ultrasound).

It has now been 4 weeks and 3 days since the mc, and I'm nearly sure I've had a negative test since but I'm now worried that they may have in fact been faint positives.

I took another test this morning (superdrug) which was a faint but definite positive. I then took ANOTHER test (obsessed I know!!) (an Internet cheapy) which was extremely faint.

Long story short, could this still be leftover hcg? I am almost certain I ovulate, and we have been dtd frequently, but I'm confused!

Any pearls of wisdom please??

Hi Lucky,

Sorry that you have been through this. It's such a crappy thing to deal with.

I mc'd at approx 10 weeks but only found out at my 12 week scan. I did not poas so don't know how long it took for hcg levels to drop. However I do know that it takes some time for it to drop below positive test levels.

I've read that you are more fertile straight after a mc, I guess because your body is kind of primed for it, so there is a possibility that if you dtd since the mc you could be pregnant again.

I'd advise you to buy two tests of the same brand (non-digi) and pee on one tomorrow morning, then another on tuesday or wednesday. Then compare them. If the line is getting fainter, it'll be residual hcg, if it's getting stronger you might be in luck!

FX for you.

Thank you Coco. Yes I will do that, I think using numerous tests is adding to the confusion. Thank you for your reply!

Ok.
Erm I hope that you have a new pregnancy.
I didn't have a period after my mc. I thought I had left over hcg.
He is 9 months old now with the fattest chunky thighs you have ever seen.Grin

You could always go to your EPU / GP and get a blood test then another in 48 hours. Obviously you don't want to get your hopes up but you just never know you could be pregnant again - fingers crossed for you. I had a MC in september was 3 days after bleeding started my tests were negative again.
Good luck xxx

Sorry about your miscarriage. I also recommend gp/epau for blood tests. Good luck Smile

Thank you I'm going to do a few more tests (there's nothing like quite literally peeing away my money!) and go from there. I would go to my GP but I have a 2 hour each way commute so going to the doctor is a bit of a mission!

Yup, that's how I felt.....thought af was on the way or that I had retained products.

Epau were fantastic. (They know me well as I've had 7 mcs) they scanned me & the sonographer screwed her face up at the screen & said "what am I looking for here?"
I sighed all dramatically and said "left over miscarriage"
To which she pointed at the screen and said "hmm, am I not looking for this baby then?"

I nearly fell through the floor.

Just sayin.

I had the contraceptive pill in my bag waiting to take it on the 1st day of my period. We had made the decision to stop trying. I was 42.

Miracles you see, they come out of nowhere Smile

7!!! You are an amazing woman, I'm so down after just one! We would love a little baby, so hopefully our time will come.

I'll keep you updated, I can sense it becoming rather protracted!

Thank you for your support!

Grr so yesterday's line was darker than the previous two days, but thinner than the control line. Told DH and he started to get cautiously excited... This morning's line is fainter than yesterday's but as thick as the control line. I have however been feeling nauseous and was sick last night. I'm starting to lose the will though with these stupid tests.... I know, I should just go to the doc!!!
