FWIW I had my first child at 37 and my last at 42. (As you can see I have three). DC3 was actually an accident as I was happy to settle for two children - best mistake I ever made though! I certainly wouldn't describe 37 as an older mum!

wow...so many success stories....you lucky ladies.... i'm ttc number 1 , just like you nottalotta!!!!, was pregnant before but had miscarriage 3 years ago , also when i was young i had an abortion....i now totally disagree with them and regret it big time..infaact hate myself for it but i hve to learn to live with that ...keep me posted on your journey for those TTC...i wish you all the best of luck, plus the success stories here must make you feel more positive too ????....... EuroChick, you're the same age as me and i have been trying on and off, now taking it more seriously over the last month and from now on , but from about 34 i've been trying too... not done ivf but i could be going down that route too.... ( you deserve some luck hun and i feel every bit of pain and frustration you must be going through but i believe in my heart of hearts that it WILL happen for us both and how much sweeter will it be when it does !!!) .. HesterShaw...you too are in my thoughts ....our time will come .... BIG BIG HUGS AND BABY DUST TO ALL TTC and all you wonderful mothers out there!!!! ...... its nice to know you're not alone on this rollercoster of a journey....BFP PLEASE ASAP!!!!! ....i'm on the dreaded 2ww even though i think its a fail but you cant help but hope a little that it may have worked this month, like i do every month even when i know deep down its a definite no no!! why do i torture myself so!!! LOL... BUT from now on when my AF arrives there will be no more tears.... i'm gonna stay positive and relax and maybe lack of stress may help!??? ....GOODLUCK!!!!!!!!!!!.....p.s its my birthday so have a piece of cake hahaha....xxxx

You may well be fine so go for it! I conceived DD 2 months before my 37th birthday with no problems. good luck!

I'm 37. Been trying since I was 34. I have one IVF miscarriage to show for our efforts. Nothing has been shown to be wrong with either of us.

Got pregnant with twins the first time we tried! I was 37 and my DH 40....

Successful first month of trying at 37.
Never considered it would be a problem
Seems we were very lucky, as nothing since, still ovulating though

Had my coil removed at 35.5, had never tried to get pregnant before so had no idea whether or not it would happen. It took about 9 months to conceive and I had my son a month before my 37th birthday. Am now 39 and 5 months pregnant with my second. Again it took about 9 months. I didn't use OPK's or chart my temperature but did record my (less regular after first pregnancy) cycle dates and keep an eye on signs of ovulation. In fact I'd just bought my first pack of ov sticks to start trying a bit harder when I got my positive this time. Never got to use them.

DC1, started trying on my 37th birthday. He was born 10 months later.
DC2, started trying shortly after my 40th. She was born 9 months later.

I'd never been pg before and we had never tried before. DH has now had the snip.

I was 39 when i had my DD. I had no idea if i could or would get pregnant (id been on vatious pills from the age of 16), maybe we were just lucky!
Good luck!

It's very varied. I am 38 and have been TTC for three and a half years with no success, but with apparently nothing wrong with either of us. However I have a feeling that even at 28, I would have struggled, so age isn't everything.

First baby at 34 one month of trying and second baby a one hit wonder accident at 36 and half! My husband has had the snip but its just failed. bit gutted given my track record and can't use anything hormonal...

With one slip-up I got a positive test on my 37th birthday.

Took me about six months two years later.

using an ovulation kit and acupuncture I could get PG very easily at this age, and older.

Nottalotta, that gives me hope too!!! baby dust to you....good luck.... i think my partner is tiring of trying every month now but he's younger than me and just doesn't get how frustrating i'm finding it!!!!!

Nottalotta Thu 15-Aug-13 14:24:12

Hello, i am ttc number one and will be 36 on sunday. My sister had a new partner, weekend away and there she was preggers!! She was 38. She was bf her son and omg preggers again! 14 months between them. Gives me hope!

layla1976 Thu 15-Aug-13 14:08:45

yeah that's what i'm thinking of doing for next month, i think thats the best way to determination if ovulation does actually occur... think 'll give that a bash! all this charting, readings, tests etc. it makes it all seem so clinical and certainly makes dtd much less interesting. My poor other half must feel very used. i'll have to make it up to him afterwards til next month so he knows just how appreciated he is...lol!!.thanks for your advice... i cant wait til i'm as lucky as you and have beautiful children..what do you have..?? boys or girls??? do you want any more???

best wishes to you and your Family xxx

I don't know what opks is, but what worked for us is the taking your temperature thing, to find out exactly when you ovulate.

Good luck!!

layla1976 Thu 15-Aug-13 12:18:41

wow, i think its just really unpredictable and must vary so much from person to person. I think when you want something so much the stress of it all doesn't help either. i've been trying for ages but this is the first month that i've tried opks( that i can understand!)and i think before i was judging it and dtd a lot earlier than i should have. i've ovulated a lot later than i thought i would i'm quite surprised. shows that not everyone is text book!! thanks.. i feel better now as you hear so much about fertility dropping at 35 its scary as hell!!! grin

tywysogesgymraeg Thu 15-Aug-13 12:12:29

I was 36. Hit it first go! My first pregnancy took a lot longer - we were trying for 18 months.

layla1976 Thu 15-Aug-13 12:10:48
