I am 35 and don't have any children. Was on depo jab for quite a few years - 6 ish i think. It was due on 6th dec 2012 but i didn't have it, so last jab was sept 2012. To start with a i had few small.amounts of spotting and some mild crampiness but nothing for several months. I know it can take a while to get your periods back to normal but am starting to be impatient, esp as 3 of my griends have all recently announced pregnancies. Should j go to docs yet or will they just send me away? Is there anything that can encourage my body to get going?

Thanks.

At 35, 6 months trying without success should "win" you some investigations - even if you were having periods.

Its not uncommon, but I would go and see your GP.

It took me 12 months to get my AF back, and then another 8 months to conceive. I was on depo for 10 years though!

Both times I've come off deposit it's taken 18 months to get periods back. After a year I was sent for bold tests and an internal scan. Both times it's been 3 years before conception!

Will add that even when periods came back a scan showed I was not ovulating and that was over 12 months after having periods

My awful cold has turned nasty so going to docs today anyway, i will see what he says. Feel sure it will be to go away and come back in six months......

Been to docs, initially said 6 months was early days but then sent me for initial blood tests, so happy with some 'progress' so early.

I was on Depo for 8 years initially them went onto the pill for about 13 months. In that time I barely had a breakthrough bleed on my week off and didn't even get through a box of tampons!

I then went back on the injection for 3 years, coming off to go onto the pill. As soon as I had my first week off from the pill I had a proper breakthrough bleed and continued to do so until I came off it after 4 cycles.

I then had a period every cycle, without any conformity with cycle length. I fell pregnant on my 5th cycle, 9 months after my last injection.

I count myself very lucky and don't think it would have been so quick if I hadn't had the initial break after 8 years.

I think it's quite hit and miss, to be honest.

I think you are right, very hit and miss indeed. The thing that was of slight concern ws th Dr saying he didn't know what we'd do if i didn't get a period!? I'm pleased about the blood tests, gets the ball rolling early i guess. He said it was to check for hormone problems, since stopping the jab i have been much more up and down and emotional with sometimes very sore boobs which is not like me. Hopefully everything is creaking back into life.

I think there's something you can take to force a period. My pregnant brain can't remember its name for love nor money though.

Is there another GP you can see who's more clued up about gynae / contraception issues? Could be useful.
