Brown discharge/spotting before period?

Bumping for you as I'd like to know too! I was hoping mine (which started on Sunday) was implantation bleeding but today got heavier and still bfn so think its the start of AF although still brown. I have pcos though which I think could explain it although Dr Google can't really explain it. Have you had it before? How long did it last before proper AF? Some women get it every cycle although not sure if that means conception is unlikely.

I get this damn near every time before AF.
I am a long way down the ttc road. I had been told countless times that this was no problem at all and no barrier to conception but I never really believed it. However I had a lap and dye done a while ago and they confirmed that all my lady bit are just fine, except for my blocked tubes but that wouldn't cause the spotting.

Never had it before. Got two daughters, 2.4 months and 9.5m (breastfed) but had regular periods since December. I'm not due until approx 17/18th march! And been having this slightly blood tinged spotting, brown discharge. Nothing heavier. I've read that implantation only lasts two days? So can't be that? We've been using withdrawal method so doubt it as not actively TTC. Wanted to wait until may/June.

In just puzzled! Could there be anything wrong with me?

I've never had this pre ttc, but the last 4/5 cycles, I've had this.

1st time I got all excited thinking implantation bleed - now I ignore it and think fuck off AF - (sorry for the strong language, but that really is what I think!!)

I'd be very interested to know what it is and why it has started happening?!

I'm interested too - I do get brown spotting sometimes but now I'm on my first cycle of clomid and ovulating, was hoping it would stop. However I've got it again, it started for me 6dpo. Trying not to get excited about implantation bleeding. I did just wonder if it's the egg being fertilised but then a VERY early mc, it's trying to implant but doesn't manage it? Seems likes it could be all kinds of things though, I've googled like crazy and can't find out for sure...it's def old blood though.

By the way I have PCOS too tea oh and also a friend was telling me she had this when she got her BFP so implantation bleeding does exist (I wasn't sure if it was a total rumour and false hope!)

Well this month for me it was definitely AF as its properly started now. I've never had implantation bleeding before (4 pregnancies but 3 miscarriages) But i know friends who have. I have had breakthrough brown spotting before especially when my cycles were trying to get back to normal after mc and I think its hormonal because my pcos causes random surges etc. although not really sure! Has anyone who gets this regularly still conceived with it?

Hi there - I'm curious about this too. Last month I had spotting 2 days before AF started, this month it should be a week until AF and I've got some brownish spotting? Unless AF arrives in the next few days, then I guess I have my answer!

Hi ladies I've had 2 pg 1mmc and 1mc at 6wks6 in December, the last 2 cycles I've had the same - implantation bleed then a few days later some old blood spotting then 2/3 days afterwards AF appears. My reflexologist is convinced its a chemical pg so implant but not fecking sticking. I also have PCOS so god knows but it adds to the stress of the roller coaster!

I have had this for every AF since my mc. Brown spotting for up to 3 days, then light bleeding, then a day of heavy bleeding before light bleeding/spotting again. It's soooo frustrating. I'm seeing a fertility lady tomorrow so going to ask her about this as I'm convinced something is wrong.

Hi ladies. So, the fertility lady said that my cycle might not have found a proper rhythm since my mc which is affecting the bleeding (sorry if tmi). I've now got an appointment next week to see a reflexologist. She said I probably need to rebalance some of the hormones that might not have settled down after my mc and this may be affecting how quickly the lining sheds itself when i get af. Worth a try I think. The worst that can happen is no change I guess. I'm also going to see my GP on Monday about something else so thought I'd ask her advice too, so will keep you posted xx

This has never happened to me.. Going by my last periods since dec. (regular) I should be due tomorrow. Did a test - negative. But why did I have brown/light red discharge/spotting for 5 days last week? (In the middle of my cycle)

So I tested neg yeaterday. I remember doing this with dd2 and was neg. left a few days and was positive. I really don't think I could be as we've been using withdrawal and also not done it a lot lately as dp has been working loads. I'm just completely confused..

Hi littlerayofsunshine just wondering if you've had a bfp yet? I have had brown discharge for 6 days now af due Sunday. Bfn on test (I know silly early but cracked) just wondered if your spotting turned out to be IB or not? X

Test negative again today and still no signs of af really unsure..
I wouldn't have classed that spotting as a period. But I calculated I was supposed to have af either Sunday or yesterday. But bfn.
I tested bfp a week late with dc1 and 1 day late with dd2

Hello, I've had this for a few years (brown spotting a week before period proper)...apparently it's caused by low progesterone in my case - yours may be different.

I have experience of two sides of this.

In 3 yrs of trying for no.1 I had 3 bfp's (2 x mc- for both mc I had implantation spotting) it was brownish and in one are lasted a week) never heavy enough to really need a tampon iykwim. Before ttc I had had pre period spotting since coming off the pill and had asked dr's all said no problem but before I had any pregnancies I manged to get rid of the spotting. I think although it could be random it was taking b complex. It's meant to help with progesterone???

In fact to get my successful bfp I upped the dose to the h&b b50 as I had discovered a lutuel phase defect. Within 6 weeks of taking it I had a bfp - with no implantation bleeding which resulted in ds. I don't think all pregnancies with implantation bleeding end badly as the dr on both occasions said the bleeding was quite normal. From what i was told The theory of implantation bleeding seems to be twofold 1, as egg burns into lining or 2, a dip in the change over of hormones so af begins a bit with old (brown blood) but the rises again. I also had a friend whose early pregnancy bleeding was caused by a fibroid. So there are a number of causes.

Liquorice yes, a year ago, but it ended in a mmc...I don't know if that was due to the prog levels. Not managed to conceive since. I've now started with acupuncture and hopefully will be starting clomid soon. It's all very preoccupying isn't it.

It is very preoccupying, I am only on cycle 3 but ever since I came off the pill 2 years ago I have had spotting before af and always had a feeling this would be a barrier
