I'm 33 & dh is 36. We're coming up to 12 months of ttc#2 but my doc says its a bit soon to do investigations & i should give it 2yrs of trying.

i got the impression from these boards that lots of people start undergoing tests after 12month. I'm now feeling very disheartened at the prospect of another 12 month wait Sad.

Is this typical or should i see another doc?

We are very similar, I'm 32 DH 35.

Our GP referred us after 14 months but did basic tests (Sperm analysis, day 21 bloods) in the mean time.

We have since seen the consultant and had further tests but are still left with unexplained fertility! The consultant did offer clomid but I declined - for a number of reasons. The consultant did say a number of times that we are young so not to worry!

He also said its not unusual to take up to 2 years (with sex every 2-3 days throughout the month) but once over 2 years less likely (not impossible!) to conceive without intervention.

In a way we are no further on despite having the tests but obviously if there was an issue we would've known by now.

It's so wrong that GPs gatekeep so inconsistently and I think it would be reasonable to seek referral.

Hi, I was seen well within a year BUT my cycles were very irregular and I couldn't find any signs of ovulation so they looked into it early because of suspected PCOS (which has not been confirmed and I'm on clomid now, 13 months after I started trying - because of course the tests/ appointments with the fertility specialists take a while). How are your cycles? If there is anything particular you're concerned about (apart from not getting pregnant of course), you can push for earlier investigations, my GP was good about it. I keep hearing it can just take time even when there are no particular "issues" but it is such a tough time isn't it, not knowing if it will definitely happen for you. Wish you all the best.
