Started 50mg clomid days 2-6(39 Posts)
Hi, I wondered if anyone could give me feedback on whether they've had much success on clomid. I have pcos and am on metformin, my gyny has put me on clomid, 50mg days 2-6 (I'm now on cd 12 and using opk twice a day). Firstly has anyone had success like this and secondly I'm a little worried as my gyny isn't giving me a follicle scan or anything, just said have a progesterone blood test day 21. Alot of my friends had scans and injections and I'm worried my gyny isn't being thorough..any advice would be great pls.
Also if this month doesn't work should I see a specialist before going up to 100mg a day (as doc said that's the next move)...so I have a scan etc on thst round??
Hi. It worked for me as I am 8 month pg - with twins!
50mg days 2-6 - I did have scans to check growth of follies/lining of womb (cllomid can thin it too much for implantation). They were v helpful I think as mine took a bit longer to get going than they expected so ovulation was later than expected. I found that I felt physically very different - v hot, v horny(!), slightly over excited. Shagged once we got the red light and had to go in for a prog blood test on day 21 as well. And hey presto, two babies!!
Yes, you must have a scan. As free says it can thin your lining. It did that to me, and is not uncommon, so you need to see. I am now having a different drug.
Also, make sure the 'day 21' test is on the right day for your cycle, 7dpo, as everyone's different.
I am about to start exactly the same amount for the same days of my next cycle. Fingers crossed for both of us!
Congrats freebutton! LOVE a clomid success story.
I am with Homerton hospital and they're scanning me from day 8-10 (and maybe once/twice more if necessary), I think so they can see how the follicles are looking. They said I'll need to do ovulation sticks too, and after the scan they will either say "right you look like you're about to ovulate, go home and get down to it especially when you get positive OPKs" or "oh no, you're releasing too many eggs, this month is out". I don't think they do day 21 tests, I can't remember as they told me all this right after I had a painful HyCoSy scan to check my tubes were clear before starting clomid, but I think he said they don't need to do that as they can tell all they need from the scans about whether I will ovulate or not.
I would see a specialist if I were you and ask for scans, especially before going up to 100mg, perhaps as you may not need that increase if you're ovulating on it? Having said that, maybe just having a day 21 test is adequate, but if so I wonder why they're scanning me beforehand?
Also, I haven't had metformin mentioned to me (I do have PCOS too), maybe that's because I'm slim with PCOS so it wouldn't be relevant? One thing I've read lots of times is that losing weight can help with the success of clomid if there is weight too lose.
Sorry for rambling, good luck!
I'm on my first course too! Don't know why but my doc went strait for 100mg days 2-6. She hasn't booked any scans though, just the 21 day progesterone test.
Very reassuring freebutton xxx
Thanks everyone for all your answers.... it makes you feel a bit better being anle to talk to people...and wow free button.... Great to hear expecting twins, that would be my dream!! Best of luck with your pregnancy.
Can I ask did you ovulate earlier/later or usual time??? I've had positive opk tests prior months on day 18 then day 16!!
I'm currently on cd13 and doing opk tests twice a day.
I'm hoping this round will work and I won't need a second but if I do need second then it sounds like I should go to a new specialist first and request scans etc before I up to 100mg.
Alexandra6 and Sop80 let me know how you are getting on with the clomid!!
Ps I have pros but am small, size 8 so have no obvious signs like you alexandra6.
My 4th round of clomid was successful and I now have a 3 week ds.
I too have PCOS and had very irregular periods. From the blood tests i had I usually ovulated around the 28 day mark as opposed to 21. My last 2 rounds were 50mg.
Good luck, I know quite a few people who were successful with clomid.
Thanks picklepepperpiper, that's great to hear was successful! Did you stay on 50mg? I have fairly regular periods now, been 32-35 day cycles consistently for about 6 months, so am hoping this is positive sign!! I take metformin, does anyone else?
Had a progesterone test on day 21 in November. Was too low but think she may have done it wrong day as only had positive opk test day 18, so she only did it about 2 days later.....so do you think I may have ovulated on my own and he tested too early??? Sorry to ramble, so many questions !!!
Hey freebuttonbee I just wondered how many attempts at clomid you had before it was successful! I took it for the first time this month, I usually get a positive opk day 18 but was day 14 this month, does clomid sometimes bring ovulation forward? I have 21 day progesterone test weds to see what's happened, am preying it worked!!
If you have PCOS, using OPKs is not recommended at all. These kits measure LH; as many PCOSers have an excess of this hormone to start with the kit just measures that excess level.
They are also not recommended to use if you are taking clomid as clomid can and does affect hormone levels markedly.
I have PCOS, first round of clomid was successful, but unfortunately I miscarried at 8 weeks. I then had an 'ovarian drill' to remove excess cysts and was pregnant again after second round of clomid, that pregnancy resulted in DS1. When he was 5 months old I fell pregnant with DD naturally (to my great surprise!) 3 years after that I fell pregnant again naturally with DS2, he is now 4. I am amazed as I was told it would be very difficult to become pregnant but I now have 3 amazing DC's! Good luck.
Clomid's main job is to make the ovaries work harder.
Attilathemeerkat: thank you for your answer, that's weird that my gyny recommended using opks when she knows I have pcos. She told me to take loud 2-6 50mg and test with opks from day 9.
Doingthedo: that's great to have clomid work and then two natural pregnancies, I love to hear stories like this... Gives me hope!
I'm on metformin too and hav been told it also helps prevent miscarriage. My 21 day progesterone test is weds, fingers crossed!!
I used clomid first month I did 50mg which didn't work and the 2nd time I had 100mg which worked. I think you should be scanned though. My specialist said to do ovulation tests which I did but never got a positive and I must have ovulated as I got pregnant that month! Good luck hope it works for you.
Thank you florin. My next step is 100mg if didn't ovulate. I am getting positive ovulation tests around the right day of month though, so my previous progesterone blood test may have just been done too early for my cycle I got positive opk day 18) and was day 19 as 21 fell on a Sunday!!
I'm hoping this test is good as had clomid his month and got a positive opk on day 14!! Has anyone taken etformn Nr clomid??
My doc didn't arrange any scans which is weird, as everyone else seems to have them!
Soph80: Let me know how you get on, my progesterone test is tomorrow, although I'm convinced it hasn't work.... I'm so nervous, I don't want to be told it didnt work!!
Freebutton bee did you get a ton of symptoms as soon as you fell pregnant? Did you know right away you were pregnant?
Zebs - I will, although I'm not too worried as I was ovulating before! My doc just reckons it might not happen every month. Don't feel any different yet despite doing everything we should have this month! Good luck for tomorrow x
Hi guys can anyone answer me!!! Panicking a bit just discovered my bd sperm results had problems, volume and mobility ok but head deformities, he wasn't v forthcoming when he had first test and now it's come out he needs another! I'm angry and upset and worried, also that wasted going on clomid!!! Can anyone help?
Don't panic - there are things that can be done to improve sperm quality. Cutting down on booze, smoking and fatty processed foods and also taking a good quality zinc supplement can help. Try to find an independent health food shop (not Holland and Barratt) and go speak to them.
If its a hormonal issue, the hospital can potentially prescribe something. Its not a deal breaker honestly.
Semen analysis often has to be repeated; one poor test result does not necessarily mean there is a male factor issue. He's probably kept quiet because he erroneously thinks that a poor result is linked to his virility.
This does illustrate two important points;-
1. The couple should together receive the semen analysis results.
2. Tests should be done in tandem
Sperms are actually quite complicated things and there is much that is not understood. Simple remedies won't do any harm but don't keep throwing good money away on treatments that may well not address the actual problem of morphology.
Clomid and met seem to work better than just clomid on its own. Ensure you are properly monitored whilst on it.
Using OPKs whilst on clomid is not adviseable as clomid encourages more LH to be produced, the kit could well be reading that increased level instead.
Thankyou guys for answering! I'm in tears here at work thinking I've wasted clomid and now we both have issues we'll never get there!
DH has some sprem issues too - marginal but enough to be flagged in the analysis.
I had fairly strong PG symptoms - but not til about day 35 or so. I couldn't bring myself to test/think about it any earlier in case it wasn't real. Had funny metallic taste in mouth, things tasted strange, v emotional/teary. In fact, I did a live POAS thread on MN and everyone told me I was defo pregnant from my symptoms and they were right. I think the twins thing meant that the hormones were higher than normal anyway.
I'm just panicking now as I've had so much hope for clomid to work and now he has morphology issues with his sperm analysis!!! Think I might as well have a
Large glass of wine after all (been off it for wkd)!
