Is my contraception reliable?

been taking cezarette progestin-only pill for two cycles of tablets. you're not supposed to take a week off and you're not supposed to bleed on it.

well, i've had two periods. not just breakthrough bleeding, but 5 day long periods.

does this mean this stuff isn't working, b/c it's another month till i can see a consultant about having my tubes tied and then a wait list of god knows how long and i do NOT want to be pregnant again.

ever.

please don't suggest the coil - i don't want it. or implanon or any other foreign body shoved up inside me.

can't take combined pill b/c am over 35 and have long paternal family history of heart disease.

what does the side-effect leaflet say? I would be amazed if any progestogen only pill guaranteed no bleeding - progestogen only contraception is notorious for giving you irregular bleeding for the first few months (at least) that you are on it, whilst your body settles down.

Sorry quick hijack - ItalianJob, have you had a recent namechange?

EPIS - I agree with ItalianJob - I thought these pills were renowned for giving you lots of bleeds, I had them when I was taking it.
But if you're worried how about (dare I say it) using condoms to be extra-safe?

Hi,
In general most women on cerazette have erratic bleeding but some do get a more regular period and it doesn't mean it's not working as long as it's being taken correctly. HTH. Smile

yikes. wish i could just have the damn ligation. i'm only having to pursue this option b/c they won't give dh the vasectomy he wants as he is 28. so instead we're having to go the option that's going to cost them more money. fine by me!

dh and i would rather not have sex than use condoms. they're vile.

i think i'm just going to stop taking these damn things b/c they've caused my chest and back to break out in painful cystic acne.

i'd like a diaphragm until i can get my tubes tied.

i always had regular periods on the mini-pill, took it for years. you have to be very precise about the time you take it, there's a 3 hour window i think. i used to take mine before bed.

i take 'em at 11pm EVERY night w/o fail.

It's blooming Hobson's choice with contraception sometimes. I'm surprised they won't let your DH have a vasectomy mind you as it's more effective than the female snip - could you ask again?? The mirena might be OK but difficult to predict esp if you react to cerazette....

They won't snip Dh and we don't have the money to do it privately. Fine, so they can pay for me to have a major operation that's less effective if that's how they want to play it.

NOT doing the coil. They tried to hard sell it to me. I thought, yeah, at least w/this pill i can STOP taking it if it starts to go awry w/my body. w/the coil, you have to waste more time in a doctor's office faffing about w/it. no thanks!

and i do NOT like the idea of potentially having a light day period for 6 months nonstop. that is not an acceptable side effect to me.

What's the waiting list like for sterilisation?? Could you put up with cerazette until it's done?

dunno. not seeing consultant till late april, where i'm sure she'll try to talk me out of it.

i cant do this cezarette anymore. my skin is AWFUL. painful cysts on my chest. i'm afraid they'll scar and they hurt when someone hugs me.

is the combined pill a complete no-no for just taking it temporarily till you get your op done?

Report

IJ
Considering my dad and two of his brothers had heart attacks before the age of 40, and one of my dad's brother's daughters dropped dead of heart attack at 39, the combined pill is a complete no go for me.
