Thanks for all your replies, they're really helpful. I'm trying to just follow my body's hints to me but they seem to change a bit each month, so its starting to annoy me! But not as much as POAS / taking my temp every day would tbh, so will try and sitck with it for now!

I get them every month for the past 7 years. At the beginning I thought something was wrong until my doctor reassured me it was ovulation.

It starts out with some discomfort and it gradually builds up to the full sharp pain on one side. It's strange, but I can actually feel the shape and size of my ovaries just by that pain.

I think that the initial discomfort comes from the growing follicle, at least it feels that way - I can feel something, but it's not big enough to cause the actual pain. Then, when I start feeling real pain it's when the follicle ruptures. The rupture is what causes the pain. The discomfort lasts anywhere from couple of hours to half a day. So as the pain.

I think the fertile window starts with that initial discomfort phase, and closes 24 hours after the start of the painful phase (because if I remember correctly ovulation is that long).

I always followed those hints my body have been giving me while TTC and so far we have 100% success rate smile HTH

I have I idea how accurate all this in relation to the exact time of ovulation.

I get them and also like you've said change each month. General period pains with sharp stabbing pains in the side that's ovulation, it's always the opposite side to the previous month. The ache can last anything from 4-5 days to simply a few hrs. Also get a dull back ache as well. Sometimes very sick and a bit worn out as well.

hi
think most of us dont get them at all. i get them for roughly 4 days around ovulation, before and after. having said getting the precise timing of ov. is very difficult. by temping however you can tell when the "ship has sailed" for that month.

I'm hoping that some of you knowledgeable ladies have some useful advice about this! I usually get ov pains, but they vary a bit, sometimes its just for a short period on one day, sometimes they come and go for 2 or 3 days, and someitmes they don't happen at all like last month (although I'm still pretty certain I ov'ed anyway). What is anyone else's experience of them? Whenever I try dr google, all it says is some people get them and some dont..... but what I was really wondering is that if the ov pains go on for a few days, do I ov at the beginning or end of them? Or when they are worst? Or is it like a sign I will ov in a couple of days? I am trying to just do the eod shagging thing, but dh needs encouragement (and quite frankly I'm often knackered!) so it would be useful to know when to really really make the effort to dtd lots. And I don't opk, temp or anything cos that would lead to serious obsessing, which would not be a good thing. Sorry for that long long message, I would just be really interested in anyone else's experiences of ov pains!
