I was out with friends last night and one of them is four months pf. Her DC is 2 and a half. After TTC for six months with DC2 she went to the doctor who prescribed Clomid.Now I've got my 3 YO DD and have only been trying 2 months. My question is - as I'm 41 - should I go and see GP now about Clomid, my friend was saying the sooner the better. Got pg easily with DD by the way.

I'm not sure they'd prescribe Clomid unless there was some evidence that you weren't ovulating naturally. (I had it, but that was because I had PCOS and hardly cycled at all). If you still have regular periods (which is what I infer from '2 months') then I don't know why clomid would be appropriate.

But there's no harm in going to see your GP and discussing when and what interventions might be appropriate for you.

Hi Grimma I do have PCOS but has been kept under control (i.e special diet etc) and have very regular periods - but I wonder if PCOS combined with age may mean I don't ovulate every month.

In that case I'd def go to the GP but I'd also try some home ovulation predicition tests.

I produced about 8 eggs on clomid...we used it with IUI but had to give up as too risky, such high chance of multiples. I am slightly polycystic. Would be careful

If you are ovulating some consultants say ov drugs don't help, others think they can give ovulating women a boost (making them produce more than one egg, so multiple targets for the sperm), known as superovulation. I had one gynae tell me it was pointless as I was ovulating and another suggest Letrozole (an alternative to Clomid). I'm trying the Letrozole now. Two cycles in, it doesn't seem to have done anything other than give me a bunch of side effects but I will stick with it for a bit longer to give it a good go before moving to IVF.
