hi all, still ttc after several months with charting and using OPK's and around the 'surge' we bd as much as we possibly can!

What is worrying me is that so much 'mess' accumilates over several days and things become rather whiffy downstairs!! Is this what other's experience? Plus, I wonder if it impairs chances of conceiving in some way when there is old semen mixing with new? So sorry, I bet I sound so silly and ignorant!!! Blush

thanks for any input! x

Are you sure you don't have thrush from all the friction(!) or some little infection? I can't say I have noticed any "mess" accumulating or whiffiness! The semen usually mostly drains out when you stand up or go to the loo, so there shouldn't be any accumulation. Sorry!

I don't get the acumulation but sorry to be gross but what is the smell?? Since tcc and coming off rubbers, I get whiffiness the day after sex even after a good scrubbing in the shower . I was worried it may be bacterial vagianosis or however you spell it as the odour had a strong resembalance to urrrrm fish (yes yuk)! In disguise i took myself off to a sexual health clinic and got checked for everything and the nurse told me that unfortunately with some people there is a chemical reaction between semen and the woman's juices which causes this odour and there was nothing to worry about.
So if you are finding whiffiness coincides with sex it may just be this chemical reaction??!!

I tend to make sure I have a bath the morning after, as it were, to give the old girl a good soaking!

thanks for your replies ladies! I went to the docs and they pretty much said what you did roberta79! They have taken a swab for testing but as I have no other symptoms they say it is unlikely to be an infection.

I find the smell is very 'fishy' but mixed with the semen smell (sorry!) It is just a little embarrassing as the smell is really quite strong no matter how much I shower or soak in the bath and I worry that others can smell me! I feel sorry for my dp too if we're bd'ing several days in a row!! Blush

Yes, I get this horribly fishy smell, but only when semen is 'introduced' into the equation. It's definately not thrush, as my family are prone to it, yet I never have been. Everything is normal, it just smells fishy :S Only thing to do is have a wash really! I only wash with plain water though, any kind of soap is very irritating!

I have ruled out thrush too as I get this a little bit from time to time and can tell it apart, plus the smell is very different. I googled about this and it does seem suprisingly common! Confused My Dp just says it's 'sex smells' and promises he doesn't mind (bless!)

whatever it is..i just hope it doesn't prevent me conceiving Sad

obviously i wish none of us had it but i am quite pleased to see that others have the same issue as I asked this question ages ago on MN and noone had the fish issue! It is pretty horrible and I only use water to clean as I hear douching with soap causes thrush.,.

Yes, it is reassuring to know other's have experienced the same thing. As if all this baby making isn't complicated enough without having to worry about stinking like a fish market!!! Confused
