Hi,

I am hoping to start DIUI soon and wondered if anyone had any advice regarding Diet and vitamin supplements??

I am 41 and have had tests which show that I may struggle due to my age, also my progesterone is low and I was wondering if there might be something I could do to make it a bit higher???

Thankyou! Smile

Have a look at the Marilyn Glenville website/book called "boost your fertility". It's got a chapter on diet and vitamins, and although her own vitamins are pricey, you can get cheaper ones but use her guideline amounts.

Hi again Nanny glad that you've made your decision - I'm sure it will be the right one for you.

My consultant (and some wise MNers) recommended vit B6 to me to extend a short luteal phase - apparently it's the raw material out of which your body makes progesterone so taking it makes sure you have what you need to make as much prog as you can.

Can your Drs give you progesterone supplements as well? I know for myy IVF treatment they want me to inject progesterone after embryo transfer.

Thanks MiniH, have had a quick look but will study it in more detail later and see what I need!!!

Hi Gardenpixie!! Yes I have made a decision to go ahead with the IUI at least for the first try and then see how I feel!!

I tried to get B6 this morning but Boots apparently don't do it so I will be paying Holland and Barrett a visit this aft!!! I did manage to get the Pregnacare Conception though, so will be using that until I sort myself out as I am presuming it has got to be better than nothing!!!

I have arranged my first apointment with the clinic after my initial consultation, although it is not until May. In the meantime I wanted to start with the dietary stuff and vitamins as I am sure I will need to have been doing everything I can for a couple of months before I start the actual treatment!!!

I am still really confused by everything but I am sure that will change when I have been for my next appointment!!!

Thanks to you both!! Smile

If you're going down the B6 route you want activated B6 also called P5P. My kinesiologist prescribes this for me and am convinced it's got me my two bfp's. Unfortunately they both ended in mc, but we're trying again with new supplement regime.

I'm 40 and apparently you have oodles of the stuff when young, but as you get older it depletes. I take this one . As you can see they prescribe 1 drop per day, but I'm on 20 at the moment and will double that at the slightest sniff of a bfp, and then she'll monitor me. I also take this one too.

I've also cut out aspartame, and am cutting right back on caffeine although a fellow poster (with a bfp!) says to get organic caffeine free as the normal stuff contains lots of chemicals.

Hope this helps, and good luck.

Thanks Harassed!!!

I am quite lucky as I don't drink tea and coffee so I don't have that problem but I have stopped with the diet drinks!!!

Can you get the activated B6 from high street shops like Holland and Barrett???

Thankyou for your advice and good luck!! Smile

Hi Nannysam, I used a herbal vitamin called zita vitafem which is supposed to help support fertility, also has folic acid in along with other minerals. Bought it online from website called Pride Angel (www.prideangel.com) lasted quite a while, I was using a sperm donor so was doing everything I could to support my fertiliy! Good luck xx

My dh got me some normal stuff from H&B but my kinesiologist said it's not the same stuff. I know you can buy it online if you don't fancy the metabolics stuff, I've always used theirs as that's what my kinesiologist uses iykwim.

It's really made such a huge difference to me. I'd been taking it just over week when I got af, and the flow was just totally different, shorter and just better. It had been quite clotty and yuck before - sorry tmi,but the difference was amazing! Then the following month I got a bfp.
