What day of your cycle did you have it done?
Does anyone know if the results are invalid if you don't have it done within the correct dates?

The thread munz put up is good to read.

It should not be done during your period as it can increase risk of infection.

A HSG is a tubal x-ray which is actually a useful test to have done. It will show any blockages if they are present in the fallopian tubes.

"Does anyone know if the results are invalid if you don't have it done within the correct dates?".
This question does not apply to a HSG test as the results are clearly seen on x-ray.

Basically the dye is passed through the cervix and allowed to trickle into the uterus. The dye does come out afterwards and santiary towels are/should be provided for this purpose. I was given two painkiilers beforehand.

There should be no pain providing the dye is injected both carefully and slowly. In my case the fear of same was far worse than the reality.

Hi Munz,

I was not given any antibiotics, just the painkillers beforehand.

Was wondering why the antibiotics were prescribed?.

hi meeks,

apparently it's to cut back the risk of infection they gave me 8 I think it was to have an hour b4 the op then 2 at tea, following morning at brekkie and two at tea again. I didn't want to run the risk of any infections etc as i'd had the all clear with it all. don't know if it's a standard pratice or not. i'm in west wales.

thank you, I'll have a look at that thread.
I have one arranged for day 13 of my cycle, this is my OV day so it means that we have to discount this cycle as it's likely it will wash the egg away.
How are you Munz? I remember you from TTC threads (after 18 months trying I've stopped posting on them - too disheartening)
After HSG we will be trying IUI.

Katie... it is correct that it has to be performed before you ovulate.... and has nothing to do with infection and periods!... the date is to ensure that you are not pregnant and it can not destroy the embryo.

I had mine done in Leeds and no antibiotics are given.

You say that you are having yours on cd13 and this is when you ovulate.... depends on how much you value your eggs!.... this will depend on weither you postpone it till next month and have it done before you ovulate. (I had been ttc for a while and needed every egg I could get!)

Good luck in what ever you decide.
Good advice to take 2 pain killers before the prodedure as it usually is painfull, this will make things alot easier for you.

thanks jeddah, I could actually visualise the egg being flushed down the drain IFYKWIM but i do need to have it done and it's the clinic's policy to only do it between day 10 and 14 and because they don't do x-rays at weekends there isn't much of a window of opp.
I think I'll just go for it and accept that it's a month missed. After 18 months of TTC it'll probably do me good to have a month off (she says unconvincingly)

katie
just read my post... sorry didn't mean to scare you by saying it is painful! .... it is like a bad period pain!

Also you usually find that it gives you a good clear out!... I got pregnant 3 months after mine!.. I did miscarry but I think thats to do with the age of my eggs! (42yrs in Nov!)
