Yep I'd definitely have it done. My husband and I had all sorts of tests, bloods checked, several sperm analysis, scans, HSG, and everything came back fine, I was out on clomid for 3 months, and then swapped consultants and was offered a lap and hyst, and my consultant found endometriosis during this operation, which he treated and after over a year of trying I fell pregnant the first month we tried after the lap.

Definitely worth doing as it may be something they can easily treat which would save you going through IVf. If nothing is found you haven't lost anything, other than maybe s couple of months waiting and then recovering from the operation.

Good luck

Yes - absolutely! They found and blitzed a few adhesions when they did mine, and I got pregnant afterwards - I don't know if it was coincidence or not but obviously that's your aim so knowing what you are dealing with helps.

It may identify any structural problems as well. Which may show treatment options might be better for you.

In terms of recovery - it takes a few days, and you will have a period type bleed afterwards which can be crampy. You may also get some shoulder pain as they inflate your tummy with gas. But honestly it's fine. :)

Hysteroscopy - tends to be known as 'lap and dye' which means they squirt blue dye through your fallopian tubes and look at both ends to check it appears - it's to check for blocked tubes.

Both my colleague and I fell pregnant within weeks of our laparascopies. I also had the hysteroscopy; not sure about her. It is def worth a try.

plum glad the appt went ok!
Had a Hysteroscopy and lap and dye and both were good to knock some things on the head and finally diagnose PCOS. Meant that I could move onto the next stage and finally get some treatment.

Agree with whomoved - pain from gas they use to inflate you is the worst, subsides after 24-48 hours, big pads for the blue dye that comes out after, scars tiny and neat. Have tracky bottoms and low knickers to wear beneath scars after.

Good luck xx

Plum,

Do you actually have a diagnosis of the underlying problem?.

I'd be asking them some tough questions about this and why they have now suggested a lap. I would also ask them whether they will treat the lap purely as a diagnostic procedure, if that is the case then that is unacceptable. Is it because they really have no idea of why conception has not occured?.

Has your H had his tests done?. Both of you should have up to date test results.

A lap is usually performed when endometriosis is suspected.

Hysterscopy is not the same thing as a lap operation.

If you have been "diagnosed" as unexplained this is actually no diagnosis at all. All this means is that they have failed to find out what is wrong.

Sometimes this is a "diagnosis" given to patients also because not enough detailed tests have been done or have been missed out.

Thanks all for the responses. attila H and I had all the tests last year we are both 'fine' and they can not understand why we haven't got pregnant. I had an HSG where they checked whether my fallopian tubes were blocked. Gynae wants me to have lap because i had a CS with my D. I got pg in 2008 and MC. Maybe it was just a miracle that I got pg and there is an underlying problem I just don't know. Thanks for the adviseBlackkat. At the end of the day what have I got to lose at least I'll feel like I'm doing something-reallyeveryone thanks for replying. H has read the posts too and says how great it is xxxxxxxxx
