+ve pregnancy test but light bleeding for a week

Bit of a long story but here goes:

I have v irregular periods so when I had my first baby we used ovulation tests which worked straight away. This time round I started testing last sunday and it was immediately +ve despite being A LOT earlier than expected. Continuted testing and had 5 consecutive +ve tests. Also had some light bleeding which started last sunday and is still going on a week later - not as heavy as period but quite bright red and mucusy (sorry!).

Did a pregnancy test yesterday thinking it would prob be too early to tell but just thought I would and it was positive! Rang docs re bleeding and they said to sit tight and see what happens as too early to scan. HAve had cramps etc too which I also had when pregnant with son but the bleeding is really worrying me - anyone had similar experiences??

An implantation bleed maybe? Can be common but it depends how far on you are?

Well that was my first thought but it seems to have been going on for too long now - a week and its more than a few spots although not as much as a period. Either way if there is a baby in there it can't be a good thing for me to be bleeding this much?

I see what you mean-I do know several people who have had monthly bleeds for the first couple of months during pregnancy. i dont know what else to say, I dont have much experience on the matter.

It must be a worry for you. Go to GP on Monday x

Yeah I think I will. It's so frustrating as I know they'll just say hang on and wait. I just want to know either way - if I'm going to mc I'd rather it just happened quickly rather than this drawn out experience. I had an early MC before I had my son and it was pretty quickly over and done with. This doesn;t feel the same but then it doesn't feel like a good thing either...

5 positive ov tests in a row seems a lot. Ov tests can also turn positive if you are pregnant. So maybe you were pregnant already when you did those tests? Just a thought.

Hi Officerswife any more news?

I may be in a similar position to yourself (or I could be letting my imagination get the better of me) but what I thought was my period started 10 days ago, and seemed more or less normal, but then towards the end when I would have expected it to be over it would stop for a day and then I'd have brown/pink spotting the next day, and so on for about 3 days. Then on Saturday it all vanished so I assumed end of AF (despite lasting longer then normal), but then today have had pink and red streaked CM again...maybe just a weird AF??

I feel silly doing a preg test as prob just my body playing tricks, but your post has made me think.

Hope your bleeding has stopped and GP helpful?

Fingers crossed for you hun. I have PCOS and my hub has poor sperm quality. Had first child by IVF and then when 6mths old fell naturally with son complete shock. Been trying for over yr again but only last few mths really going for it before was not going out of way trying. Spoke to gp in nov who refered to gyni who has said they won't be able to help. But now investigating another prob. When having check could feel lump in belly which I can't. Also 2 mths before missed period. As always irregular between 34 days and 49 but mostly between 5 -6 wks apart did 1st test at day 42 neg. Did another day 49 neg. Saw GP day 51 advised to test day 52 and day 58 which both neg. But just been getting really peachy tread like bleeing at day 44 then nothing next then some next few days then nothing for 2 wks then 1 day bit of blood again. I know my periods are irregular but one thing I can always count on is they have always been heavy and with clots. Gyni wants me to take a drug to bring on peiod and have blood tests done on day 3 of bleed but also got to have a scan on thursday to find out what lump is. Don't want to take drug incase very small chance preg but now also worried about other things it could be throibe cancer. Go back to gyni at easter to discuss all results.

Update on where I am:

Was worried over the weekend so called out of hours GP who referred me to hospital straight away to rule out ectopic. Went along and she did an examination but couldn't feel anything untoward although hasn't ruled it out. Did blood tests which showed over 2000 hcg level so have to go for a scan tomorrow to see what's happening. Think I might be further along than I thought as 2000 I think is quite high for v early pregnancy. Possibly last period wasn't a period at all although I don't think there was anything unusual about it.

Jmelynch - hope all goes ok for you.x

Also bleeding seems to have petered out a bit - now just brownish discharge so fingers crossed it's stopping.

How did it go, Officerswife?

Unfortunately not well :(

Went for a scan and the internal scan showed up an ectopic pregnancy although it wasn't very clear where exactly it was. The level of hormone in my bloods was high so they didn't want to risk giving me the injection as it apparently takes about a day to work and it could have been too risky. HAd operation on tuesday night and they removed my right fallopian tube. Back home now and recovering but quite sore!

Doctors assured me that the missing tube shouldn't have an effect on conceiving in future as my other tube and ovaries/uterus are healthy but I can't quite believe them...

Feeling quite sad about it all. Just thankful for my little boy!

Thank you for all advice - really glad I got it checked out early as it could have been so much more traumatic.

I am really, really sorry for what you have been through OW. But if it is any consilation you only need one egg for a baby and our overies tend to take turns where the egg comes from so there is a chance. I had a friend who had one twisted ovary tube on one side but has gone on to have 2 children so there is hope Good Luck xxxxx

Thanks sproglet. I guess if the tube was damaged all along and I managed to have my son pre ectopic pregnancy then something somewhere must be working. Fingers crossed. Stuff like this makes you really thankful for what you have got though - we're still a lot better off than some people and I just have to keep reminding myself that.x
