How do you increase your progesterone levels?

Hi,

My last two blood tests (on day 23) have shown less than 5 for the level of progesterone and that I didn't ovulate - as my doctor said, the level was flat as a pancake!!

Next month I am having the test done at day 28 to hopefully spot ovulation - and we will deal with the lack of luteal phase later, I just want to know there is an egg! - and a ultra scan to check my ovaries.

I was wondering what treatment is usually undertaken to increase the progesterone level?

P.S what are these tests called? I know that it looked at the level of progesterone and evidence of ovulation.

I would not focus too much on LPD; this is in itself a controversial area.

You need a diagnosis first and foremost.

It certainly would be a good idea to have an internal ultrasound scan done to see if your ovaries are polycystic. That would be a possible reason why the progesterone level is so low.

I would also have a day 2 test done to have your levels of LH and FSH looked at and compared against each other. As your progesterone level is very low the chances are that your LH and FSH levels are also out of sync. LH and FSH are two very important hormones as they kickstart the ovulation process.

Hi Attila,

I really appreciate the time you take in your answers - you seem to be very knowledgeable!

I am waiting for a scan date to check my ovaries and I will ask for a day 2 test on my next visit.

I have a copy of my blood results which say:
