Ummm, that's it really.

Asking for a friend, you understand Blush

Absolutely. Is this good or bad news?! (for your friend, of course)

oh good question BathesInAssesMilk... is it though? i thought that was a sign of ovulation? oh it's all so confusing!

Sperm can sometimes live for up to 7 days. So yes.

I think it is one of the signs of ovulation. And being nice mechanical beings we don't do things exactly the same all the time.

Besides, sperm can live for several days inside you so it's possible to ov a couple of days after sex and still conceive.

But good question dotty - is it good new or bad news?

And it'll likely be a girl too! Wink

Is that so solo?

I'm really not sure about all this gender choosing but we only managed to SWI before and over the first 2 days of EWCM this month.

Secretly I'd rather another little boy TBH - even out the numbers nicely!

But that's only if I could pick one up off a shelf so to speak. Obviously, what I really want is another healthy baby regardless of flavour.

Good or bad news? Not sure. Really not sure. Missed the old emergency contraception window though I think - even the coil.

Can the sperm survive if there isn't EWCM present? Can it even get past the cervix?

I suppose the EWCM might be present higher up, and take a day or so to travel out of the vagina (so you wouldn't see it even though it was there, iykwim)

Where is it made, this EWCM stuff? Confused

Egg white cervical mucus. Made at the cervix so takes some time to show on the outside!

You have 5 days for emergency contraception, from the unprotected sex.

(By the way, there is a new pill called ellaone which can be taken up to 5 days after so the coil is not your only option if you are worried!)

Some people never see any EWCM.

But they still manage to make babies effectively.

Five days is just about up. Only really started panicking after seeing the EWCM, utterly forgot about the five day thing, completely forgot when last period was - but looking, the timings are more and more ominous.

Oh yes temper, I see the clue as to where it's made is in the name! Grin

I promise if I get a BFN in a couple of weeks I'll sort myself out with a Mirena Blush

Oh - don't do that. Mirenas are the work of the devil.

Get a depo jab instead. I've had both and I reckon the jab's much better.

Oh, I keep hearing about Mirena being the spawn of Satan. Depo might be worth a look.

Off to Google...

Female sperm are slower but have more stamina apparently. That's what happened when I conceived Dd.
There is some scientific stuff that substatiates this which is how I 'know,' but I can't recall where I read it.

Hmmm. So I am possibly pregnant. Probably with a girl (dp is 40+ which I believe increases the chances a little).

I'd quite like a girl, actually (not that I approve of gender preference, you understand).

I mean my friend would quite like a girl.

Mirena vs depo is horses for courses. Depo is whacking great dose of hormone (enough to last 12 weeks!) and can take 18m after stopping for fertility to come back. But tend to get no periods which can be a rather nice side effect Wink

Mirena seems to divide people. I think its a suck it and see option - lower hormones with less systemic absorption, and usually reduces your bleeds but some people just don;t get on with it. I fit them in others again and again because they love it...

Hope your friend gets the result she wants!

Ummm, it's still pretty unlikey though, isn't it, despite the proximity to my ov-ing?

One episode of unprotected sex, late 30s?

A bit Shock at the likelihood demonstrated by this article, although obviously it doesn't take age into account.

Mirena over Depo for me everytime. It took me six months to regain fertility after coming off Depo with a hellish 8 week bleed which was only sorted out with a month of mini-pill (although possibly only relevant if you want kids / more kids).

Also suffered reduced sex drive with depo, particularly at the start of the 12 weeks.

I was lucky though - I didn't have periods with either.

We DTD on a Monday, got positive OPK on the following Sunday and EWCM from Wednesday onwards (in between).

The result, DS2 is sat on the floor at the moment, playing with his toys Grin.

It can happen.

Oh good lord Shock

I calculate, using my trusty spreadsheet (don't ask) that the very earliest I my friend can test is next Friday. Last time I tested positive on day 21 but that would be less than a week after the, ahem, incident, so far too early.

I shall report back.

Bathes - let us know how you, sorry, your friend, goes. I am in a similar situation where we had sex about 2-3 days before I think I ovulated and it's still too early to test. My lower belly feels a bit rumbly like something is happening (feels like it does in the 24 hours before AF usually arrives)and it's been like that for a few days now but am not sure if this means something or if it's just in my head..!

Will do, LittleOne.

I think a couple of days prior to ovulation is (depending on how you feel about being pregnant) ideal, as the sperm are there ready and waiting to meet the ovum. Couples who wait until OV day might have actually missed the boat apparently.

Oh yes, and I'm feeling all sorts of "pregnancy" symptoms too, which is madness, particularly as they started about two days after having sex Hmm

I think my mind is playing tricks, tbh Grin

When is your AF due? I'm going to test Friday I think. I've ordered these as I won't rest easy until I've tested at least a dozen times.

Oops, feel almost like I should namechange for this!

We had did the deed last Tuesday in a fit of broodiness following the birth of friends' dd and within 24 hours had ewcm. We were, for lots of reasons, suppopsed to wait until February! Our own dd is 9 months...
Have had similar pre AF Symptoms, heaviness, back ache etc.

When can I take a test?

sunface · 15/11/2010 12:50

oh i'm feeling very like you! DTD last weekend and early in the week and woops spotted some EWCM... dying to test, but think it's wayyyy to early? Probably need to wait another 2 weeks or so when AF due.... unlikely i'll be able to wait that long though. have sore nipples, metallic taste in mouth.... eek!
