Hi,

Just a quick question, but how long after getting a positive should you try for a baby?

On Sat I got my first positive so we tried on sat night and sun morn. We also tried again last night

Anyway tonight I was expecting a negative, but I got a positive. Anyway Im tired, DH says he is feeling a slight discomfort down there. Do we have to have sex again tonight or have we got a good enough chance if we wait until tomorrow night before going again?

Sorry for the questions and the TMI, but I would like to know the answer. I just dont know whether to do anything tonight if its still ok tomorrow.

Thanks

We used to have a go at the first sign of a positive, but only got preggo after the maximum colour, when I thought I had already O'd and all was lost for that cycle.

Have another go tomorrow or even the next day. YOur egg is released from your ovary at ovulation - it travels down your fallopian tube for a day or two after that, and will be fertilised in the tube... so you've loads of time really..
Don't look on it as a chore - plenty of snogging first Grin

ENJOY! And good luck.

HI

sorry to disagree with zazen, but you dont have a day or two once you have ovulated. The egg is only viable for about 12 hours and for it to be able to implant well you want it to be fertilised while its still up near the ovary not half way down the tube. Best to have the swimmers ready and waiting for the emerging egg.

Having said that, your OPK is detecting a quick pulse of hormone shot out 12-36 hours before ovulation (that is when you get a positive test) Bear in mind that stress can delay ovulation, so if you get the LH surge and are very stressed, it could be even longer than the 36 hours stated on the packet. Lots of sex before ovulation should do the trick though.

By the way all of this comes from Taking Charge of Your Fertility, Toni Weschler - its a great read.

If you are really desperate to get the timing right, then keep trying but if you are both feeling worn out, best not to kill all the passion in your relationship by going all out, take a breakSmile

I agree MummyAbroad if the OPK only had one high, but it looks like there is delayed ovulation in the Op's case hence the sticks showing LH+ive for three days, in which case I'd still give it a rest tonight and try the day after.

I used to get stress delayed ovulation and a weeks' worth of positives on my O predictor stix. This went on for 36 cycles, and we had a DX of unknown infertility.

It was only after all EWCM was gone and I thought the cycle was over for sure for us that we managed to conceive, and that was after memorising Toni's very good tome.

Good luck OP, and take it easy on yourselves!!!
Rest today and have a go tomorrow after a coffee Wink

Thanks for your advice, I did rest yesterday. I have just taken another test and it was negative. Now Im wondering if Sat was really a positive or just a positive on the way Hmm I thought it looked as dark on the control line, but maybe I was wrong.

With DD (nearly 3) I always got negative apart from one night where the line wasnt as dark as the control line but we did it and concieved, so who knows this time I might again anyway.

Still going to have a go tonight then its the 2WW :) Just hope it goes quick.
