Clomid - first scan had and NOW I have questions

In all the indignity and hurry of yet another 'dildocam' scan I walked away with a million and one questions I wish I had asked.

I have PCOS and am on day 9 of 50mg Clomid (days 3-7 taking the pills). I had a scan today and was told I had one 12mm and one 7mm and a lining thickness of 2.2mm.

The sonographer wants to get my follicles to 15mm and lining to 7mm.

There is no further medication at this stage. They want me to go back for another scan on Wednesday and then she mentioned going back daily after that.

I am failing to see what the daily scans will achieve. We are doing this privately so at £200 a 10 minute scan this seems excessive.

Does all this mean it hasn't worked for me?

I feel utterly stupid for not asking this earlier and will be sure to write down questions for all possible outcomes next time (Wednesday).

Anyone else's thoughts or experiences would be helpful.

Hi ya,

I think they want to track the folicle to see if it gets bigger cos if it does it will become an egg & they can tell you the perfect time to have sex!

Good Luck! Having PCOS & using Clomid on the NHS did nothing for us. I had 1 blood test on the first cycle & because I ovulated according to my hormone levels they left me to it for the next 5 cycles!!! Still no baby for us!

I'm not an expert but on my 3rd cycle of clomid just now. During my first cycle I went for my first scan on CD10 after taking clomid CDs2-6. I can't remember the measurements but was told I had one follicle staring to dominate and lining starting to thicken but not enough yet. I had to go back the following week for a second scan (CD 17) at which the follicle and lining were at the measurements they wanted (I'm fairly certain these were the 15mm and 7mm you mention, or very similar). I was told that if they hadn't been "ready" I would have had to go back weekly for scans until they saw what they were looking for, or if it looked like nothing was going to happen they would up my dose (I'm only on 25mg).

I would say don't lose hope, it's still really early on in this cycle and it can sometimes take a little while for things to get going. I would expect that you'll have the "right" measurements soon and if they're wanting to keep scanning I would think it's because things look like they're developing and they want to pinpoint the exact day of ovulation to make sure you SWI at just the right moment! Once they have seen through the scans that the clomid is doing its thing, you shouldn't need to be monitored as closely.

Make sure you ask lots on Wednesday, get your moneys worth.

Good luck and hope it all works out for you.
:)

You shouldn't have to pay £200 per scan! The follicles typically grow 2mm a day I think so you should be at 15 or more by Weds. The scans are just to monitor what is happening. I would have expected you to pay a certain cost for a cycle of treatment to be honest.

They may take bloods on other days to see whether you have ovulated. If it doesn't work this month (and it is still too early to say) then based on the results they may adjust your meeds next month.
