Hi everyone. Looking for some advice. We're TTC #1. Came off the pill end of May this year and been trying ever since. I am temping and doing OPK's, but also looking for other things we can do/improve on to heighten our chances of conceiving.

Pretty much ever since we met we've always had sex with me on top. We've both got aches and pains from old sports injuries and a car crash and this position does suit us both. But I'm a bit concerned now reading a few things on the net that this is possibly one of the worst positions for TTC.

Anybody any advice?

I've read that the woman on top is not the best as if you think about it, it defies gravity for the swimmers.

Apparently him on top, and you lying down is best and you should keep in that position for about half an hour afterwards, and not shower/wash for about half an hour.

I've been told the 'legs in the air' thing is myth.

Anything that allows deep penetration is advised, which is missionary position (you can draw your knees up towards your chest to improve, erm....depth Blush but this can be painful for people with lots of different medical problems.

Afterwards I pop a pillow under my bum and stay that way for half an hour.

A variant of you on top could be doggy style if you lower your front arms or maybe rest on a cushion under your stomach?

I found a website with drawings of various positions for ttc, it was very humorous (there is a pic with a dog in its basket watching them go at it on the dining table which made me chuckle), can't remember the site though.

I had heard that it really doesn't make a huge difference....think about all the unplanned pregnancies and withdrawal techniques.

Someone on MN did suggest that the woman orgasming after the man was good, as his sperm goes into the cervix, and then the orgasm is the contraction of the cervix and the sperm is taken higher into the body.

Someone else said that sperm are programmed to swim upwards, against gravity, so if you were to lie with bum in air it might confuse them!

I think it is us that is most confused!! Best thing is to make sure you do it - and lots! Every 2-3 days to keep his swimmers fresh, especially around ovulation. I think if you were to force yourselves to use positions that weren't comfortable for you, then you're less likely to do it often and more likely to be stressed. Counteracting any possible advantage (that we don't even know exists!)
