How many tickets?

OldBeanbagz Tue 24-Sep-13 14:06:21

I've applied for opening ceremony, athletics and cycling.

If i get everything i requested it'll be a huge dent in my bank account and we'll be holidaying in Glasgow next Summer grin

But honestly what chance have i got of getting 100m finals?

Noggie Tue 24-Sep-13 14:16:32

Think it will just be luck of the draw! We have put in for quite a few tickets and will be a bit shock if we get them all!! Def want to get to some though!

lade Tue 24-Sep-13 21:52:40

We've applied for:

Rhythmic gymnastics qualifiers
Rhythmic gymnastics individual finals

Artistic gymnastics qualifiers
Artistic gymnastics womens team final

Diving and Mountain biking.

we've applied for the most expensive ticket on all of them (s0 if we get them all, it'll cost us over £600), but as we live in South West England, if we go it'll be our holiday next year.

I doubt we'll get them all. Hope to get something though!

littlemonkeychops Wed 25-Sep-13 15:35:47

We applied for cycling, athletics and rugby (one set of each), and the 100m, but seeing as Usain Bolt won't be running it i'm not too fussed if we don't get them as it's in the evening (small DCs).

littlemonkeychops Wed 25-Sep-13 15:37:50

Lade we're in the south west too, long journey but so worth it. Hoping to get something, fingers crossed for next week!

Iwantacat Thu 26-Sep-13 20:02:25

Is Usain not running next year?

We've applied for the 100m final...really wanted to see Usain! sad

We've also applied for the boxing as one of our friends should be fighting. Applied for diving and velodrome too. £550 here if we receive tickets for everything.

Is it Monday we find out what tickets we've received?

littlemonkeychops Thu 26-Sep-13 20:08:20

Bolt was interviewed by bbc last week and said he'd probably only run one event, and his preferred choice would be 200m but it depends what his coach advises him.

Yes, should get an email between mon 3

littlemonkeychops Thu 26-Sep-13 20:12:09

Argh posted too soon! I meant should find out between mon 30th and 7th oct. I wanted to see Bolt too, let's hope he changes his mind!! I knew 200m was his favourite event and did half think when i applied whether to apply for those tickets instead!

Iwant that would be great to see someone you know compete!

Good luck everyone!

Iwantacat Thu 26-Sep-13 21:15:52

I will be gutted if Usain doesn't run...I have even planned the flag decorations with the DC ready. blush

Let's hope he changes his mind and decides to run just to keep us all happy! wink

Iamsanta Mon 30-Sep-13 07:50:03

Anyone had their email yet?

I hope we all get the tickets we want.

It's going to be a long week if I have to wait until Friday for my email!

We applied for rugby sevens, I hope we get them!

OldBeanbagz Mon 30-Sep-13 10:12:56

No email here yet sad

Got all my fingers crossed for cycling.

littlemonkeychops Mon 30-Sep-13 14:54:58

No email yet either, but their website says they're starting email this afternoon and everyone should hear in the next few days (i'm not obsessing, oh no!)

Yay! I got my Rugby Sevens ticketsgrin.
Email just came now.

MissRabbitRules Mon 30-Sep-13 15:26:09

We went for Opening ceremony, couple of athletics, rugby sevens, diving and cycling. Hopefully get something as we are close by (Edinburgh). Quite excited now!!

littlemonkeychops Mon 30-Sep-13 15:28:38

We only got rugby sevens :-( which would be fab to see, but as it's a seven hour drive at least it would have been our family hol, so not sure it will be worth it now :-(

Monkey, there are plenty of other things to do in and around Glasgow.

littlemonkeychops Mon 30-Sep-13 16:20:26

Yes i know, but there are a lot of places that aren't 7 hours drive away (and finding an affordable hotel etc as it'll be so busy around that time), it would be v.expensive for us. I was excited about making it a sort of one-off sod the money type thing. We did that for the paralympics because we were lucky to get tickets for several days, had we only got tickets to one event we wouldn't perhaps have gone (even though there is lots else to see in london) because of the cost of travel/accomodation. Sorry, didn't really explain in my earlier post properly.

Whojamaflip Mon 30-Sep-13 16:24:41

No email here yet either

Applied for artistic gymnastics - men's and women's qualifiers and finals but seeing as it was one of the most over subscribed sports, I'm not holding out much hope sad

dancemom Mon 30-Sep-13 16:26:48

I applied for gymnastics, swimming, athletics and lawn bowls! No email yet though... I live in Glasgow so no extra expense for me, contemplating letting home out for commonwealth period though, any takers? wink

MissRabbitRules Mon 30-Sep-13 16:47:57

Only rugby sevens tickets for us which is a little disappointing but better than nothing I suppose.

OldBeanbagz Mon 30-Sep-13 17:22:15

Nothing at all for us sad

I'M REALLY ANNOYED!

How are we supposed to inspire our a new generation when a boy who regularly competes in cycling and running is not even given the chance to see events.

Off to sulk now and no, i don't want to buy a f***ing t-shirt from the Official Merchandise store to make up for the fact that we haven't been allocated tickets!

booksandchoc Mon 30-Sep-13 17:25:37

We applied for swimming tickets or me and DSis, and boxing for DH and his friend. They got boxing and we didn't get any swimming tickets. Not happy, but saves us some money I guess. We are in central Scotland so Glasgow is quite close anyway.

We applied for 2 full days of athletics and just got the 2 morning sessions. Coming over from Northern Ireland so it is going to work out very expensive for only a few hours spectating and we won't even get to see any finals or medal ceremonies. Really disappointed.

poppyknot Mon 30-Sep-13 17:39:18

With you OldBB sad.

Haven't told our DD judoka yet....

Noggie Mon 30-Sep-13 18:25:58

We got half the tickets we applied for so feeling ok about that. Live on Glasgow so would have been gutted if hadn't gotten anything!

Iamsanta Mon 30-Sep-13 18:29:38

I'm gutted!! Only got the velodrome...

Is it worth driving 10 hrs just for 2hrs?

indyandlara Mon 30-Sep-13 18:31:25

Got none after applying for 4 events. Pretty disappointing.

littlemonkeychops Mon 30-Sep-13 18:37:24

Iamsanta we're in the same boat, only got one rugby session, 7 hour drive/cost/annual leave etc, argh?!

Iamsanta Mon 30-Sep-13 18:49:09

What are you going to do littlemonkey ?

I feel sorry for everyone who haven't had any, surely there would have been a better way to share out equally...

littlemonkeychops Mon 30-Sep-13 19:06:33

I'm not sure santa, probably see how we feel nearer the time i guess. See if we can get any other tickets maybe. I guess nearer the time when they start hyping it all up we'll either want to be part of it or back out when faced with the travel/cost. Rugby was DH's choice really not mine, i wanted athletics/cycling. We'll have to see.

How about you?

Iamsanta Mon 30-Sep-13 20:38:52

It was meant to be our summer holiday and I was hoping to have 4 days at the games!

Our friend should be boxing up there and DH is gutted we haven't had any of the boxing tickets..grrr ( nc from above)

We are going to apply again next week and hope we get another day or two maybe, otherwise might wait nearer and hope we can buy some somewhere?

littlemonkeychops Mon 30-Sep-13 21:03:48

Ah i wondered where the poster with the relative had gone. That's a shame hope you manage to get some.

I wonder if they'll end up doing a resale of unwanted tickets like london, otherwise people who decide not to go (like we might) will mean empty seats.

trixymalixy Mon 30-Sep-13 21:04:28

Gutted. Absolutely gutted. We didn't get any and we live in Glasgow. I just wanted to take the kids to something after they were so interested in the Olympics and we couldn't get tickets for that either. I quite honestly could cry.

It's so unfair that some people have got loads that they applied for and others absolutely nothing. Surely they could find a fairer way?

littlemonkeychops Mon 30-Sep-13 21:12:19

Oh trixy that's really crap :-(

Fingers crossed you get some when they sell what's left?

Did you apply for rugby? If we don't manage to get more tickets for anything we might not go (we're 7 hours away) so ours would be going spare?

trixymalixy Mon 30-Sep-13 21:20:30

Thanks littlemonkey.

I would definitely be interested although rugby's not really my thing! I just want to take the kids to something!!

I can practically see the mountain biking track from my house so feel particularly gutted about not getting tickets for that.

I'm just going to apply for anything and everything in the further sales assuming there will be some!

Iamsanta Mon 30-Sep-13 21:27:58

It seems so unfair they way the tickets have been allocated! Surely there could have been a fairer way.

Whojamaflip Mon 30-Sep-13 21:39:37

Nothing sad

So glad I hadn't told the dcs - they both compete in gymnastics at county and above and would have been absolutely gutted if they had known we had applied and got nothing sad

I was hoping to give them tickets for christmas.

fuck it I'm gutted sad

if you did get tickets then well done and enjoy!

trixymalixy Mon 30-Sep-13 21:41:00

I wish I'd applied for more now to increase our chances, but the thing is that if you get them all you are committed to buying them all! Itjust seems to favour those who are well off. There must be a better way.

littlemonkeychops Mon 30-Sep-13 21:41:08

No rugby isn't my top choice either, included it on our application as an extra for DH iyswim not as the main thing we wanted.

Fingers crossed you get something, with it happening in your home city it would be such a shame not to take part. Pm me your email and i'll let you know if we decide not to go.

I think the problem is it sounds fair to have an open ballot for each session, but people with loadsa cash could apply for dozens of sessions to see what they got, whereas most people had to limit themselves to a couple of sessions in case they got lucky with them all and had to pay a big bill!

trixymalixy Mon 30-Sep-13 21:45:03

Xpost!

I suppose there's always the marathon and the cycling road race which are free to all.

INeedSomeHelp Mon 30-Sep-13 21:50:22

I got two tickets for the closing ceremony. Wasn't going to bother applying but a woman at work persuaded me what a great opportunity it was. Feel a bit guilty now as she didn't get any.

ivykaty44 Mon 30-Sep-13 21:53:05

Iamsanta - two hours for ten hours drive is a bit much. I have tickets for the worlds next months but that is 10 hours worth for a three hour drive. I doubt I could bring myself to drive for 10 hours for the same cyclists on the track and only get a fifth of the time

tootssweet Mon 30-Sep-13 21:57:20

I'm quite excited because we got some tickets! It's only table-tennis which were my 'nobody'll probably want to see this so I'll give it a punt' choice. We didn't get the gymnastics which dd had set her heart on, but I might try on the returns.
Did have to go for budget choices though as didn't fancy having to commit £££ that we don't have. Have already booked spare room at mums & her babysitting services for dc2. Am excited to be going to something like this on my home turf (even though I have been away for a number of years now)

trixymalixy Mon 30-Sep-13 22:23:57

Well done toot! I would be excited too!! I think the table tennis will be quite good to watch.

Got squash tickets, going to it on a MN day out with netto and her dd

SaidFlorence Mon 30-Sep-13 22:33:35

Applied for loads, only got rugby sevens sad

lade Mon 30-Sep-13 22:35:03

We got our tickets for the gymnastics, but didn't get the diving or the mountain biking.

At least it will be worth the travel up to Scotland for our holiday.

Most of my friends who applied, also got at least something. I don't know anyone who got everything they applied for.

trixymalixy Mon 30-Sep-13 23:04:30

Yay, for everyone who got tickets!!

IsleOfRight Mon 30-Sep-13 23:06:09

I applied diving x 2, gymnastics x 2 and athletics and got the gymnastics and athletics. V pleased and going to have a Scottish holiday - Glasgow plus some countryside before or after.

Norem Mon 30-Sep-13 23:49:32

We applied for gymnastics, swimming and cycling and got nothing sad
We are in Glasgow and I really wanted to inspire the children.
Does anyone know if there is a second wave of tickets?

littlemonkeychops Tue 01-Oct-13 08:47:16

The website says they will be offering further tickets to those who took part in the first ballot in mid oct so there should be a chance of some more, not sure how many. It said they'd email more details in due course. Sorry you didn't get what you were after, fingers crossed.

nostringsattached Tue 01-Oct-13 14:58:58

I applied for heaps of events. On the thinking that there would be little chance of getting many tickets, so I tried my luck on all the ones I would love to go to, I got my email yesterday saying I got 21 tickets aaahhh! I am so glad to be able to go and take my little girl to the gymnastics event and I get to go to the track and field event aswell....but surely they should have limited a household amount so more people could go seems more fair to me.

Well done to all who managed to get tickets toosmile

prettybird Tue 01-Oct-13 15:39:03

I'm involved with a large youth cycling club in Glasgow through ds and not a single one of us has managed to get tickets to the Track Cycling sadsad

I applied for 2 sessions at the velodrome (going for expensive tickets to increase my chances). Now wish I'd gone for all the sessions despite the risk to my bank balance and that I'd applied on my dad's behalf in his own right (he's away at the moment, and hadn't got organised before leaving so just told me to include him in my own application).

I did also get tickets to the rugby and the hockey - but not the athletics (one of the heats sessions that ds picked out) or the swimming (again, a heats session).

At least we can get to see the Road Race for free. smile

ivykaty44 Tue 01-Oct-13 17:34:31

prettybird - did you see who won the senior sprints with Jess Varnish varnish last week - even though she is still a junior grin

I hope it doesn't end up liek the olympics with empty seats when plenty of bums would have happily fllled them sad

trixymalixy Tue 01-Oct-13 18:00:46

Nostringsattached if you're thinking of selling any of those then I'd be interested!

There was a woman on the train saying she'd ended up with more than she'd actually wanted. Such a stupid system!!!

MuseumOfHam Tue 01-Oct-13 18:25:46

Applied for 7 x athletics sessions, cheap seats, but even so if we'd got them all it would have been £££ and basically a stay at home holiday for us next year (in East Scotland, easy travel to Glasgow). Got 2 sessions! Delighted, as is DH who I've just told.

Gutted for my colleague who has a relative competing in the gymnastics and got nothing. Feeling pretty sorry for all those who have a genuine interest or involvement in a sport and got nothing.

brainwashed Wed 02-Oct-13 19:12:50

Applied for loads...only got rugby sevens which is a bit disappointing but glad to at least be part of it. I also applied to be a volunteer but it appears they don't want me for that either

3nationsfamily Thu 03-Oct-13 15:06:09

They have just announced the Next phase so anyone who lost out gets first dibs on what tickets are left. I think that like the Olympics there ill be people who only got one or two events and decide it isn't worth it to travel and will use the resale option in a few months time so there will be other tickets available. Not ideal for those who need to plan travel and accommodation in advance but still an option for more local fans.
After our Olympic experience (applied for loads of cheaper tickets and got only football in first round but perservered over the 12 months and ended up with a range of tickets) we took the view of going for only 2 tickets at a time, and the most expensive tickets for every session of our top events (Swimming) and then a range of others that were in less demand. We got 2 sessions of swimming, plus some badminton and one lot of athletics- overall about 1/3 of what we applied for. I have been interviewed to be a volunteer and am waiting to hear, so hopefully I will get to see a lot more behind the scenes.

ForalltheSaints Sat 26-Oct-13 12:13:24

I've got tickets for the last day of the athletics- relays etc

dbuk2000 Tue 07-Jan-14 20:56:31

I applied for loads but am dissapointed to get nothing

emma123456 Wed 15-Jan-14 23:03:52

Does anyone know how to return tickets? We have ended up with events more than a week apart and cant find accommodation wecan afford.

hulahoopsilove Thu 23-Jan-14 10:29:51

is it too late to buy tickets for this now?
