dd1 is nearly four and really into dolls and dressing up. i'd like to get her a doll with outfits to change, but not a baby as she already has one. thought of barbie but seems a bit fiddly for her age.

any ideas? thanks in advance...

you need either a Lilydoll or one of the [[http://www.corolle.com/us/catalogue/misscorolle.php5 Miss Corolles]

both much better and more appropriate than Barbie

Can recommend Roby and Roxanne from Argos even though DH swears that they look like Chuckie. You can buy ordinary baby clothes for them to wear. My dds(4 & 6) love them.

Though the Corolle dolls are lovely but a bit more expensive.

I saw lilydolls and groovy girls dolls in TK Maxx last week for £10.

!!!!

does that mean that all TK Maxx's would have them? It's not like a normal shop is it?

There's nothing I like better than a good bargain!

Bishopston trading do great dolls, with sets of clothes to change into, plus are all fairtrade/organic cotton/eco dyes etc.

I think TK Maxx does have some of the same stuff in their shops. There was a thread on here last week about washable nappies being in at TK Maxx and when I went they had them at mine too. That's when I saw the dolls.

for those that have got smoby's roxanne - what size clothes do they wear?

Right. I'm going to find my nearest TK Maxx then...

I really like the look of the Roxanne doll but it's enormous. It's 63cm - seems massive for dd.

The roby and roxanne dolls are big, and come in an even bigger box, which would look impressive christmas morning.

We have some size 0 clothes and they seem to fit fine.

My 4 year old loves her sisters roby and roxanne, so much so that Mum is buying her the fair haired girl for christmas, cant remember what she is called.

I spotted these ones on the Argos site, but not sure if what you were thinking (or even if they are in stock)

Theres a new one by zapp creations and I think they are slightly smaller than the roxanne dolls. The boy one is called Sam, cant remember the girls name.

does it have to be a doll? you can buy outfits for the cuddly animals in the bear factory/build a bear workshop.

dd (4) has had a few barbies and a big bag of clothes (all bought secondhand) for a while now and mostly manages to dress them, though I have to help her occasionally when she wants to put on a particularly skimpy outfit (usually when i am cooking or on the phone...) grin

the good thing about them is you can pick up bits from them from charity shops really easily and cheaply, so you can get cars, horses etc etc.

Brilliant! Thank you so much.

Will try TK Maxx for Lilydoll, but if no joy am loving this little one:

www.dollymania.co.uk/ballerina-fair-trade-handmade-doll-p-17.html

ticks the boxes of doll obsession and Angelina Ballerina obsession all in one present!

lordy. maybe i should buy her a meccano set instead and try to bend the gender stereotype just a leedle bit.
