I need to send gifts to a few primary school aged girls (Reception and Year 3). I see them infrequently, but still want to send them something they'll enjoy.

Can anyone suggest some good gift ideas (books, toys, craft, etc)?

Fwiw, I'll want to send via mailorder (Amazon etc), as am not in the UK so links to suggested items would be much appreciated. Thank you!

Meant to add, no particular budget but should think somewhere in the region of £25 each would get something quite nice. Obviously, happy to spend less though if suggestions aren't that pricey! wink

I think reception is aged 5 and year 3 about 7 or 8? is that right?

my DD1 is in primary one which makes her 5 so could maybe help you there!

am trying to think what we've got for DD1 now blush We've got her a VTech laptop as she's always wanting on ours but is just a bit too young - will try to find a link

she was Dora Explorer daft but we're apparently steering away from that now we're at school!!!

Tinkerbelle DVD is just out as is Wall-E or King-Fu Panda

we've got Tinkerbelle jigsaw and dress up thing for her

my friend's 8yr old is into Hannah Montana/High School Musical etc but I'm not particularly clued up on those sorry!

My dds are Y1 and Y3. These were my ideas for them:

Y3 child: member of the Beano club
space hopper
specially weighted toys that you can throw into the pool for the child to dive after
lava lamp (they do get hot - depends on how sensible the child is)
'Centrally Heated Knickers' poems by Michael Rosen

Y1 child: egg cup (child's)
fairy lights that have butterflies, or flowers or some such on them
pretty lightshade for her room
Amelia Bedila books
pretty dress

Hope this helps

I found that marks and spencers had some quite good activity sets for kids (under a tenner!) I got my 5yr old niece a disney princess activity pack with colouring in poster, stencils, pens, princess game and all in metal tin, hopefully keep her occupied! Also really loves dressing up, so Disney shop has done well in the past. And anything sparkly.

I've bought some of these PLANX sets on 3 for 2 as pressies for various nieces and nephews aged between 5-9. I think they seem like a nice antidote to pink princess stuff for girls or computer games etc.

Anything High School Musical would probably go down very well I would think! You could order a HSM goody box parcel between them from Amazon - dance mat, HSM3 cd, stationery things etc etc.

Sorry I haven't been back to the thread until now. There are some very good suggestions here.

Am also considering an audio book version of some of the Laura Ingalls Wilder 'Little House' books - though have no idea what it costs.

Any other ideas?

Emphasis: To bold a word, surround it with asterisks, so *hello* will display hello. For underline use _ , so _hello_ gives hello. For italics use ^, so ^hello^ gives hello. To strike out a word, surround it with two hyphens either side, so --dog-- gives dog

Links and smileys: To insert a smiley face, , type [smile] or :)
For a big grin, , type [grin] or :o
For a wink, , type [wink]
For a shocked face, , type [shock]
For an angry face, , type [angry]
For an embarrassed face, , type [blush]
For a sad face, , type [sad] or :(
For an envious face, , type [envy]
For a sceptical face, , type [hmm]

Links The simplest way to insert a link is to enter the link itself, surrounded by [[ and ]]. So if you type [[www.mumsnet.com]], the link will display as http://www.mumsnet.com. If you want your link to display text other than the web address itself, leave a space after the address then add the text before the ]]. So "Look at [[www.mumsnet.com this page]]", would display "Look at this page".
